Nakamura Ryuutaro, director of many anime including "Kino no Tabi" and "Serial Experiments Lain", passed away at around 4pm on June 29, 2013 after months of fighting pancreatic cancer. The news was delayed according to his family members' wish and it was announced today via the official Twitter of the Chibi Neko Tom project, which was the first anime Nakamura directed (1990). Nakamura Ryuutaro was born in 1955 and was 58 years old.

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Ah FUCK. *sadface* :(

I thank him for directing Lain and Kino. Like Osamu Dezaki and Satoshi Kon, he was taken at too young an age. I thank for directing Kino and Lain, two great gems of psychological dramas.

Man just when I thought this season couldn't be any more of a bummer in terms of goings on with anime it somehow finds a meta way to get worse. Tough break for another creative thinking mans TV anime director in a field that is kind of increasingly desperate for that sort of thing. It's like this medium is sometimes cursed to have it's best and brightest fall short of their full potential long before their time.
