Hi all! Whats your favorite classic anime?

I personally love Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell, but i don't think they can be called a classic by now. So there's just one of my three favorite animes left:

Bubblegum Crisis

also known as Bubblegum Crisis 2032 or 2033.

Best 80's Cyberpunk with well designed characters and an OST which simply rocks.

Hey there that's a nice topic!

hm, I think I like Jin-Roh, Neon Genesis Evangelion; GTO and Ghost in the Shell the most! (Sorry for that list ;))
But Akira has more of a classic status! The funny thing about this is that that Anime is older than I am! But I guess there are some more :)

P.S.: Join The Classics Club ;)

One of my favorites is Silver Fang (Ginga: Nagareboshi Gin). I've only seen nine episodes of it so far though. It's a little older than I am, but I like most of the older style of animation that they used.

Well, I wish I could see all the great classics, but it's pretty hard. Everywhere's the new stuff, from the 90s and 2000s... For now Mirai Shounen Conan is my faveourite. Night on the Galactic Railroad and Wings of Honneamise are pretty good too.

Akira forever.
There's a lot out there, but for me Akira is the best.
(Specially when it's the first anime that you watched in your life, and it was the first manga too)

Here's my list. Make of it what you will:

Akira (simply for the fact it cracked the western market and pavedthe way for all the other movies and series).
Ghost in the Shell - showed what anime and CG were truly capable of when combined.
Giant Robo (original series) - If you haven't seen this, then you should. This is epic storytelling.
Grave of the Fireflies - Much more powerful a tale than Barefoot Gen
Vampire Hunter D - a cult classic and the reason why shows like Hellsing exist, which leads me to....
Blood: The Last Vampire - anyone who's watched the making of will understand why.
Ai Yori Aoshi - possibly the sweetest anime love story to date
Fruits Basket - I don't think I need to explain why
Cowboy Bebop - again, no explanation should be needed
Dragon Half - one of the best parodies in anime history
Golden Boy - and again, I shouldn't need to explain
Perfect Blue - and again
Wolf's Rain - and again
Urusei Yatsura (Lum)/Ranma/Inu Yasha - for spawning more manga, merchandise, and fanboys and fangirls than all other anime combined.
Top wo Nerae (Gunbuster) - the superior big brother to Evangelion
Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou (His & Her Circumstances) - One of Hideaki Anno's finest works
Voices of a Distant Star - the ONLY anime that is truly one man's work
Slayers - If you haven't watched it then you've missed out
Sakura Taisen (Sakura Wars) - Saturn and Dreamcast owners will have fond memories of this one.
Riding Bean - The ORIGINAL cool car anime
Comic Party - One of the first and best parodies of the doujinshi world
Chrno Crusade - In many ways this is darker and more compelling than FMA
Jungle wa Itsumo Hale Nochi Guu - One of the greatest parody animes ever made
Trigun - another that I shouldn't have to explain
Mermaids Scar/Laughing Target/Fire Tripper - part of the original Rumik World series and also the best.
Now and Then, Here and There - If you haven't watched it then you've missed out
The Wings of Honneamise - a classic anime movie
Ah! Megami-Sama (Original OVA) - much better than the revamped series

There's a few more than that, but tis late and me tired. In case anyones wondering why Evangelion isn't on the list, read my review and you'll understand why.

For me it is NGE (Neon Genesis Evangelion, for those who don't know). This is the greatest anime ever. The next ones are Kare Kano, Dragonball, Slayers and many others.
I liked also Cat's Eye, but I saw only 7 episodes (I don't have more, but I want|

For me it would be The Mysterious Cities of Gold, Akira and Porco Rosso.

All three gave me a wonderful introduction to the world of anime and convinced me that there was something better than trashy American cartoons

My classics....they'd have to be the first anime I watched.
Patlabor, Patlabor 2, Macross Plus, and Wings of Honneamise.
Cowboy Bebop, FLCL and others were favs but nothing beats the memories of watching those first 4 shows on late night cable tv for the first time.

Bitterly disappointed that there's so many classic anime shows left out from the club's listing of classic anime. There are some titles in that list now that I would question them being classic.

Anyway, that's off-topic for now.

My favourite classic anime is Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu (Legend of the Galactic Heroes).

Here are some of the other classic anime shows that I enjoy but are not in the club's list at this time of posting, listed in chronological order:

Ashita no Joe (circa 1970-71) / Ashita no Joe 2 (circa 1981-82)
Uchuu Senkan Yamato
Space Pirate Captain Harlock
Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam (yes, I preferred this over the original series)
Touch
Top wo Nerae! (Gunbuster)

I'm kinda of surprised no one has mentioned Robot Carnival or Video Girl Ai yet.
At any rate, there you go.
Robot Carnival has rightly been called the Fantasia of Anime. Unfortunately, its been out of print for quite some time now. Its a real pity, more folks need to see it.
