Is the anime gonna follow the manga? There's only 2 episodes left and I doubt they can cover that much in so little time. So is there gonna be a season 2?

I'm hoping for another season and it looks like it is quite popular so it's definitely not out of the question. I have not read the manga, but if there is still a lot more content then season 2 is probably pretty likely to happen.

I doubt that a sequel will be made. I predict a clumsy ending, a few specials and an OVA.

100% sure there's gonna be a season 2. manga is beyond awesome! I've read 33 chapters in three days and I usually hate comics who have anime adaptations. Valentine's Day chapter NEEDS to be seen!

Had no idea this was only 13 episodes, was hoping it was gonna be a 24+ ep series :(. Not sure how far ahead the manga is, but I can't see a decent ending with how it is now and only having 2 eps left :/.

There won't be a sequel just because you think the manga is "awesome". The industry doesn't work that way.

It's not doing so hot. There should be some threads in the news section with the sales for this anime listed.

According to one of my friends in MAL, the anime covered only a fourth of the current manga. The anime has great production value overall. By production value, you could say the telecasting rights already did enough to make profit out of it. The DVD/BD sales would only add more to the anime, bearing in mind that it has a huge male fanbase compared to other shoujo adaptations. And since it is Brain's Base, you could say we are most likely going to see multiple seasons.

I don't think that's very relevant. I mean, the only two shows that had sequels from Brain's Base are Natsume and Spice & Wolf.

Honestly, it probably will. I'd say a 75% chance. There's a lot of material left to cover, and the manga sales (for shoujo at least) is doing pretty good.

Spice and Wolf wasn't even a Brain's Base production. They only did season 2. The reason behind mentioning that is because it is the only other shoujo anime from them. And both anime are widely accepted by male fans (the primary buyers of digital media such as DVDs and BDs).

Brain's Base aside, the same reason is why Kimi ni Todoke is likely to get a third season and Skip Beat most unlikely to get another.

Well you can always hope for the best. :)

I've only found this number of sold BD - 2,494
and let's be honest it's not so good.

Now it all depends if there was change in sold volumes of manga, if yes than second season is probable.
I would like to see it, just give more time to secondary characters :P

You tend to forget that the production expense for the anime is far less. Let's round it up and say the BD sold 2500 copies. This could be equivalent to 25000 copies sold for Fate/zero.

From a practical point of view the production cost for Fate/zero is more likely to be more than 10 times than that of Tonari. So, it is not that bad. Having BD for a non harem shoujo anime itself is something to be considered. In the last 5 years or so I think only Natsume, Kimi ni Todoke and Kaichou got their BDs. Natsume S1 didn't get BDs untill Zoku became succesful.

Hmm. I never considered that. Certainly Fate Zero's production costs are much more expensive than Tonari's but are Tonari's production expenses so low that even 2500 copies is enough? And at least by now, it would have sold 3000. So say 3000. And what do you mean by telecasting rights?

Agreed. I was under the impression that for shoujo anime, the manga sales counted more than the DVD/BD sales, but I could be wrong.

Ahhh. I hope so, too. This series deserves a longer run time - 13 episodes doesn't do it justice. There is still a lot that needs to be clarified.

The sales are average to below average for the show. I am not sure if the manga had a spike in sales. It honestly depends on those two factors. It's possible.

As much as I want one, it's unlikely. It wasn't well received in Japan based on sales figures alone and I don't think the manga sales improved.

If you like it, put your money where your desires are and buy the DVD's. Manga sales only matter to the publisher not the animation company.

I like the manga, so I buy the tankouban's to support the writer. If those so desiring were to do the same for the DVD's there would be a second season relatively soon.

Shoujo series seem to have a tougher time getting the sales numbers to make it an easy call for a second season. On the other hand we did get a second season of Chihayafuru despite relatively slow sales, but that seemed to be a commitment by the TV network. Of course with a new LDP government in power, and considering some of their attitudes towards manga and anime, maybe it's good politics to pump a couple of wholesome, quality, non-ecchi or fan-service shows.

I'm hoping there's a second season. There's so much potential with what they have established already in the anime and manga.

Without any official word all we can do is speculate, but I do think that the 13th episode sure wasn't much for endings. To me it seemed to be a bit more of a transition to another arc/season.

Well, here's hoping. *crosses fingers*

with how shizuku was talking during the last scene before the credits, it totally felt like she was foreshadowing a season 2, with "there's so much left to tell about him, her, him, her, him".
