I was planning to write about that flower scene before I opened the page. xD It was really good. I don't remember that kind of thing in the manga, but even so it was a good add. And Tamaki was so cute in this episode in every scene. xD

Nice episode that helps to understand Kyouya a little better... and of course how Tamaki had something to do with Kyouya joining the host club.

Probably my fav episode so far, plotwise anyway. Favorite part was seeing the part where Kyouya was thinking that Tamaki was an idiot & couldn't figure out how he could see right through him.

"Mon ami! Mon ami! Mon ami!" Lol.
I like how a series as silly as OHSHC can still have thoughtful episodes like this, and actually pull it off well.

Not a real good episode but it was cool.
It was interesting to see Kyouya's life from back then, up until Tamaki asked him to join the club. Now we know alittle bit more about him.. :3

I'm a huge fan of this show....

This is BY FAR my favorite episode! No matter how many times I watch the series.

Tamaki is so vulnerable and yet so utterly stupid. His goal is to simply make new friends and explore Japan. This makes you love him and hate him at the same time. He has a lot of very funny moments whether he's pouting in the corner, or dancing around singing "Namahage! Namahage!" He is so endearing and so annoying at the same time it's hard not to like his character.

At the end of the episode when Kyouya finally snaps, he not only COMPLETELY insults Tamaki but physically attacks him as well. Does Tamaki get angry? No. Does Tamaki Get scared? No. Does Tamaki pout? No. He stands up to Kyouya and gives him good advice... because that's what FRIENDS do. He treats Kyouya like a true friend and makes Kyouya realize his full potential.

Therefore Kyouya completely breaks the whole "ass-kissing" routine and shows his true colors. It is the beginning of a truly beautiful friendship. Kyouya may act like Tamaki's kindness doesn't affect him BUT IT DOES to a tremendous amount! He is annoyed by Tamaki (everyone is) and often calls Tamaki a moron but this episode shows the deepness of their relationship and how much they truly appreciate each other.

The flower was like whoa but it shows how Kyouya surpassed his brothers. I loved this ep The Host Club Began but I feel sorry for Kyouya it must be hard for him trying to be who he is but then Tamaki will always be there to tell him to do it. I loved this episode

Maybe a second season?? There's still hope. :)

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS EPISODE. Kyouya-sempai is by far my favorite host. He is just so multi-faceted, frankly I think the entire series could have been about him.

His older sister is adorable, too... playing in his clothes, and unable to squeeze them back into the drawers perfectly.

What do you think Kyouya will do in the future? I wouldn't be surprised if he starts his own business to surpass his father and brothers in medicine.

But I was wondering where did Takami get that TV from? Anyway loved the cute and funny Takami and the utterly confused Kyoya.

This was a really good episode. Made me laugh, I can't believe he let himself be dragged to all the sites and not complain to him and tell him yeah, not today until the very end. We get to see him snap!! LOL when he's so serious and composed. LOL

Tamaki might be stupid all the time but he's a really nice person.
He helped all the people from the host club and also lots of other people.

This episode was so great and meaningful. I, especially, loved the painting. It is quite symbolic in showing how Kyoya surpassed his brothers. And Tamaki! You gotta love him! He seems pretty stupid at times but he's a great person.

Definitely one of the best episodes!!!

Didn't know Kyoya had to suppressed all of his feelings all those years.

Kyoya's sister, Fuyumi is funny as hell XD

It seems Kyoya has a lot of clothes in his clothes, but manages to fit them all in such a small cabinet. Love her voice, Kikuko Inoue!

Seems Tamaki is already playable and a gentleman from the start XD

I lol'd when Tamaki made all this requests, then when Kyoya is much more prepared, Tamaki turns him down and instead should focus on studying XD

The Piano music is lovely and tearful!

Kyoya finally snapped, but Tamaki assures that he's not trying hard, if he go down this path, he'll forever never leave his shell forever.

The big flower at the end was a nice touch indeed!! Kyoya finally smiles at the end :)

Last 2 episodes T__T

The painting metaphor at the end was really great.

Kyouya is such a great character. Is destiny conflicting with his personnality is a tragedy. He's burning from ambition, yet he's stuck with a fate he didn't choose.

Hearing french in a foreign language show always do me a little something :)
Mon ami! Mon ami!

Tamaki was so stupid with those japanese cliche xD
I didn't even knew that he was a foreigner. But in the end, he's the one that got Kyouya out of his melancholia.

From the next episode title, I guess the love polygon will reach his climax...

This anime really surprises me sometimes with some stellar writing and beautiful imagery. The ending of the Wonderland episode and the flower scene in this one really hit home. Quite impressive how easily this anime changes tone each episode and makes these "stereotypical" characters more layered and complex than most characters in serious anime.

It wasn't enough to make me (or anyone-else) hate him, but even this far in, I'm still sticking on the one critical and nigh-unrecoverable error he made clear back in the beach ep, effectively ridiculing Haruhi's view on gender. He probably didn't realize it was such a faux-pas (especially since Haruhi never really called him on it that I remember), but it was, and I'd probably have knocked him on his ass for it if I'd been there.

Anyway, now that we understand Kyōya a lot better, it makes me wonder just what's going on between him and his brothers/dad behind the scenes - is everything okay over there, or is his ambition causing problems between him and them? Not that he'd betray any hint of it unless it got really bad, obviously, but still...
"Ō-sama...kindly shut up. I wouldn't normally do this, but we are working with them whether you like it or not, because otherwise our chances of success approach zero." - Stern the Destructor (maybe not a direct translation, but it gets the point across)

So Kyoya never wanted to be friends with Tamaki it was father who wanted Kyoya to befriend Tamaki.

That symbolism with the flower going out of the frame. 2deep4me

Kyouya + Tamaki = BEST FRIENDS FOREVER <3

It's amazing how insightful Tamaki can be about everyone. He played piano, and I saw Kyouya cried for the very first time. I love how Kyouya reacts when he's annoyed LOL.

Kyouya's so happy to have Tamaki although he's idiot at times. <3

Wow. This show is really something. What a great episode, probably the best so far. The flower metaphor was beautiful, and it was great to see more of Kyoya's back story. I just love how this show develops its characters in each episode.
