Not a first viewer here. It's been several years since I first watched SAO and I just wanted to make a comment that the first episode is a 100/10 episode. Absolutely brilliant setup, fascinating concept, wonderful world building and a interesting MC.

Episode 1 was a really good introduction to the series. If you die in the game you die in real life. I enjoyed it a lot the series has a lot of potential

Well 1st episode was awesome setting the perfect platform for rest of the season but I wish they would have explored Aincrad more
However, we are getting it as progressive versions floor by floor, can't hold for that

Watching this in order getting myself ready for the progressive movie. Though, maybe i am too late? Yeah, the anime came in when i am still a normie without too much expectation of anime. Well not that these time i have much expectations too. So, here i am challenging myself and binge this. First looks fine enough to me, definitely not wasting their sweat time by the introduction and directly telling the objective and others info. Hopefully the rest its not as bad as 'they' said. Still, none other than myself matters. So, lemme binge this in the midst of seasonal watch, and judge later through the end. Wml...

I'm seeing the Progressive movie later tonight so instead of seeing some actual good shows, I'm rewatching SAO... well at least the first 2 seasons since Alicization is way too long but I'll see if my mind changes later. Start feels too quick for me, would have been a lot better if Kirito's life was shown off a bit more before he logged in, or even just discovering the world more with Klein and show some appeal to the actual game there before hell broke loose with Kayaba's revelation of the truth behind SAO. I'm not gonna go too critical though about this premiere, there's more to come in the future that would irritate me so I'll be patient for then.

Also, the Crossing Field OP by LiSA still is a banger. One of my favorite anime songs I've heard from her even now, given how many songs she was a part of in the past couple years, especially with successful franchises like Demon Slayer. For how much criticism I'll have for the series, this song is still really, really catchy to listen to.

I can't believe it, I can't fucking believe I'm watching this. After all these months, it took me just a pill of laziness and Netflix to finally watch the one and only, Sword Art Online!

July 2020 was the time that made me interested to watch this because of the OP, but I guess it took me all the way to 2022 to finally pull the trigger. And I'm laughing to myself that this is the first ever anime I watch for the new year, dear help me.

So what about this episode, well I can say it's a decent start. An RPG game that became a death game in disguise, and oh Lord wth is the creator thinking. Anyways Kirito ain't no fucking around, just like what I heard from all the memes and myths. Let's see how this story progresses as he tries to reach for the top.

My SAO journey begins here, for better or for worse!

10 years. It's actually been that long. :,)

Edit:
Sword Art Online is one of two of my all time favorite animes. It's crazy how it's been 10 years already.

I love SAO.

The story, the characters, the games, the entire world in which it happens.
SAO also gave me my waifu, Asuna. <3

The idea of being placed in a game that involves life or death situations, where one wrong move could mean death, is both rad and scary at the same time.

The game master must be one hell of a coder to make himself appear via a ludicrous amount of blood.

I agree with you Klein, Kirito does have a cute face, lol.

first episode was very exciting, the concept of sword skills and scaling a massive tower is really cool (as long as you don't die in real life), and it hyped me up to binge watch this whole series. a pretty scary experience for the players though cause they have one and only one life.

Very exciting premise, but I didn't fully understand why kirito was bleeding. Is the pain turned on or was it just for drama?

Very nice first episode.

I wonder what the reason behind the creator's decision is. You can't just block thousands of players for no reason. And also how is he able to do that without worrying about the police.

The 100 floors part seems interesting, Kirito for now is alright and Klein is great! I'm not really that interested in Asuna but I don't dislike her.

Primeiro episódio espetacular, apresenta um mundo totalmente novo, a ideia de um mundo virtual aonde as pessoas podem morrer tornar o anime algo interessante pena que o autor não soube trabalhar melhor o primeiro arco de Aincrad.

Wow there's been a lot of people who recently watched this. Sorta crazy. The situation sucks so much. I can't imagine not being able to escape. At least Jirito has some experience with the beta so he knows how to get around. Sucks that they will die if someone discounts them, might as well make a warning before someone else gets rid of the nervegear completely.
This never updates so that's cool

I know this is almost a year later, but Kirito was bleeding due to a papercut he gave himself before entering the SAO

An okay start to the series. I'm trying not to be biased by the general discussion around the series I've seen over the years. Luckily I only know the broad strokes and not so much about the details. And, yes, a lot of this is very trope-y ("If I die in the game, I die in real life!") But SAO is largely responsible for the isekai explosion of the last decade, so I think I can forgive it.

So when the villain/main developer/creator of the game shows up and goes “you’re probably wondering why I’m doing this. The reason I created SAO was to control the fate of a world of my own design” and it just… fell so flat for me. Without spoiling, is this really all there is to Kayaba Akihiko and his motives for doing this?

A magnificent first episode, the whole presentation of this new world is fantastic and really captivates us so that we want to know what's going to happen next in the plot. And the characters, the introduction to the story, the world, the soundtrack and the animation leave absolutely nothing to be desired.

It's such a shame that this episode is pretty fantastic as an introduction, but then it's all quickly downhill from here.
I really hope I don't hate the rest of season 1 as much as I feel I did, It's just the definition of wasted potentional.

I finished this rewatch recently and yeah it really is pretty bad, it has some really good elects like kirito and asunas relationship but outside of that everything feels rushed and barely developed upon, everything to make a great anime is here but nothings done with it

@maki_evergarden Somethings could’ve been explored a little more, but to say it’s bad because it didn’t. I just don’t think that’s a fair assessment.
