| Two Bach pieces and two Beethoven pieces from what I heard. Not bad, not bad. I like the little mind teasers as well. They aren't overwhelming - they just give you the "oh, why didn't I think of that" feeling, which is quite nice to have every once in awhile. I wonder what KyoAni has in store for us - are they going to release their onion cutting ninjas? If so, in what way?! And nice to see they brought back the VA of Tomoya and Sunohara. I want another fist brawl! |

| I enjoyed this episode. Actually glued to it the whole time. I enjoyed the visuals, the intrigue and such around the club and especially Fukube and Oreki's storytelling and development of the mystery. Even more their interaction together was funny, how odd for Fukube to know exactly what to say to Oreki to get him to actually stop and think or reminisce over his actions. Already like these two already. Chitanda seems like she can become annoying over time, and to me she seems exactly like Miho in Bakuman. |

| Animation was the best thing about this show so far. It pretty much rivals or even flat out beats F/Z in that department. Unfortunately, this first episode is a ridiculously slow start. It just seemed flat and boring. Seems like another slice of life. |

| The amount of haters is just unbelievable. It's the first damn episode. The 4th main character hasn't even been introduced yet so of course it's going to be slow with light mysteries. We havn't even got into the main plot yet so how can you possibly judge it this early? It's a 21 episode series. Sit back and relax. |

| The animation was pretty awesome and the epic duo VA!! However, the episode as a whole (especially the mystery element) felt a bit weak to me. So I hope they'll do a better job at the mystery next episode! |

| I was insulted by how boring this was. Also, I've never seen such lazy character development before. They just use Fukube to point out all of Oreki's traits and opinions, and then try to pass it off as scintillating dialogue - which it isn't. At least the episode was pretty and sparkly and whatnot. |
| I knew i was missing a show this season and it was one of the ones i was most excited for! glad i have another show to watch on sundays Since everyone has already talked about the art i will just say as expected of Kyoto Animation slightly more mature looking version of k-on as for the episode it was Nice i wasn't sure what to expect besides mysteries and as someone else said they're minor stuff but i guess it will be a mix between it and Heavy Dialog between the characters? sounds good to me! already like them so far..Eru :3 i never seen someones eyes light up so much over thinking lol. |

| I second everyone on the animation, superb. Not one of the best first episodes of this season, but not bad. It was hard for me to follow, the dialogue went fast and I could not keep up with the MC's logic. Probably will re-watch. There is major potential, producers just have to be careful. They need to do amazing character development I feel like. There does not seem to be an overall "goal" (like a huge mystery that needs to be solved) for the anime yet, so hopefully episode two will introduce it- watching directionless animes is just awful. And those eyes, holy. |

| This was really interesting IMHO and I cant wait for next weeks episode! But like onedaysnotice said, I can't tell if this is going to be SoL or mystery, hell it might just be a mixture of both! Plus the animation is GORGEOUS! And them eyes. Mesmerizing! 4.5/5, so far its living up to my expectations! |

| Quite a bland start but the animation is looking good at least. Looks like KyoAni is blooming more moe blobs :3. Anyways, hope the storyline speeds up a bit. The slow pacing is really lowering my attention span despite the sexy animation. |
| Animation is great! But other than that... this was terribly boring. Probably one of the worst KyoAni animation I've seen so far (and I'm a KyoAni fan). I'll give it a few more episodes. |

| There wasn't really anything too interesting about it, but I think it could get a lot better. The animation is absolutely gorgeous though. And it looks like the rating finally balanced out. |

| Animation was good, but I don't really care about that. I wouldn't have even noticed, really, if everyone wasn't going crazy over it. The actual episode was good - the mysteries were just little basic things, like "How did this door get locked" and "Where is this secret club's poster", so I'm hoping for more exciting mysteries in the future. I gave this a 4 out of 5, I love the protagonist and his personality, reminds me of myself a little bit. Chitanda is cool too, love her optimistic and curious personality, it mixes well with the protagonist. This definitely made me want more, just hoping the mysteries become more involved - I'd rather one big mystery per episode than two small ones. |

| Them EYES! I expected good animation, but holy crap this is great! Beating even the likes of Fate/Zero in animation IMO... Just wow. so far, the mystery have been trivial... Which kinda reminded me of a little of my old school days. It certainly was fun trying to figure something out, like how did a certain student get into a locked room, who broke the vending machine and the likes... Certainly trivial but fun times. I think I'm a bit biased at the moment toward this show. I'll probably come around after several story arcs, right now, I'm just writing how I feel about the show. EDIT: Nakamura Yuuichi doing his usual cool bastard role. To those calling the other character a Sunohara copy... I don't think we're watching the same show... This guy is a fountain of information, or his nickname... Database. And he's part of the Executive Committee, this guy's caliber is no joke. |

In defense of Hyouka, I'll say that Gosick had a tendency to withhold evidence from the viewer until Victorique revealed it herself, at which point she had already solved the case before giving the viewer a chance to do so. This first episode of Hyouka revealed its mysteries' evidence in advance of them being solved -- we saw Houtarou pass the janitor on his way to the club room and the mystery of the music room was described in detail several scenes before being solved (and Houtarou being skeptical about there actually being a national competition was a hint in itself). EDIT: Unless you're talking about the Gosick LN and not the anime. Forget I said anything in that case. |
| Oreki Hotaro reminds me a hell of a lot of Narumi, Ayumu from Spiral. Good first episode. I wasn't expecting much but I'm glad I gave it a whirl. I will be following this one. |

| Wow, I'm really liking this so far. The animation is stunning,and all 3 characters are very likable and enjoyable to watch. Personally while some people may have found the pace to be slow I thought it was just right. I'd rather a mystery show like this be slightly slow than rushed. Overall, it was very enjoyable and I'm really looking forward to the next episode. |

| Yo kyotoani, been a while hasn't it? I haven't seen you since nichijou! (Or if you wanna get techical since I saw my dissapearance of harui DVD, but thats besides the point) I don't think I need to state my opinion on the animation or Eru since its pretty much the same as the mass majority so I'll move on into something else. I was sort of lost Via the second half so I might have to rewatch it again (which isn't a bad thing for thi show) but from what I got out of it did the MC make up that mystery for Eru because he wanted to see her reactions from the first half or what? Now as for the first half It was interesting to see how the mystery of the locked door was solved and have to admit they did a nice hinting at it being the janitors fault before hand. This is easily the most anticipated show I'm watching this season, since the director or creator comments I saw from ANN intruiged me, it looks like they'll be putting alot of work into this. I have to say I like the MC, sorta reminds me of myself when I'm feeling cynical so seeing the events that transpires onto him will be interesting. Ok, I've got to say it: Eru is too f***ing cute to be viewable, its easy as heck to see why the MC was phased by her. XD |

| Compared to surprising standouts like Lupin III and the two noitaminA series, this kind of felt disappointing, even with the pleasant animation. Maybe I was expecting KyoAni to go in a different direction, and so far I haven't seen that. It's still too early to tell, however, so I'll continue to watch. |
