Been waiting for this to air and I'm pretty pleased that is wasn't terrible at all. The only thing I'd change is the artwork, just a little bit. It seems pretty weird from time to time. Otherwise great start for (hopefully) a great anime!!

SHOW OF THE SEASON RIGHT HERE
I sometimes forget why I like anime. There's so much crap, not enough gems. But this is more than a gem. This will be incredible.

Pretty good start, just kinda annoyed with the crappy "my relatives are unrealistic assholes trope"

But damn does Sentaro's VA have a sexy sexy voice.
It doesn't think, it doesn't feel, it doesn't laugh or cry..... All it does from dusk till dawn is make the soldiers die.

This was absolutely amazing. It's a really nice change from all the bad SoL I've been seeing recently. Just shows that when two people do the same thing, it's not the same thing.
I LOVED the music, which accompanied the fight on the roof and when he was meeting the girl's dad. Also, the drum beats actually synchronizes with what he's playing, which is always nice to see (lol compared to Kiniro no Corda. And sometimes even K-ON).
All the characters are really likeable and charismatic, without being boxed into categories (all the deres out there...).
Oh and the voice actors are amazing.
The only thing I disliked was the whole cliche of the main guy's family. Especially the sister (?) and the maid which are actually there. The thing the maid said (something along the lines of his mother's a bitch) seemed forced and unrealistic.
Obviously I have really high hopes for this and can't wait for next week.

That little girl... e.o

But great first episode!

Most of the characters are very likable, and it's one of the few animes where I actually love the protagonist. :D

Why only 11 eps? D:

I've never seen a 1966 setting. Looks fun~

Great Episode! Well, looking at the staff, I was expecting something interesting. The animation is good, nay especially georgeous - almost movie-quality - during the drum scene. The jazzy ambiance is a must for me. I hope it continues at this pace.

The only word I have for this show is AMAZEBALLS!

Easily the best thing airing this season. Art, music, pacing all top notch. Only 11 eps, but that is the Noitamina way. Will be sad when this one ends, brilliant premiere.

This anime has some decent potential, as long as it doesn't turn too maudlin.

But the opening and closing songs - what is this CRAP doing in a story about kids learning about jazz in the 60s? Those sorts of songs were fine for Natsume Yuujinchou, but in an anime about 60s jazz?????

The drum part was incredible, it was pitch perfect and the animation was extraordinary. Great first episode despite the very peculiar character design. It was extrepmely different from what I'd pictured but Watanabe still shines in this kind of slice-of-life/old school/music setting. Well, he IS a great music director too.

I have no idea why you doubted him or Yoko Kanno.

This first episode was very solid. Animation, music and pacing were all good. The story is a little a cliche, but I'm sure the Jazz is the key element of changing the standard transfer/bullying element that so many other school drama's use heavily. Characters are probably the weakest part of this story so far. Not so much their designs completely, but they do seem a bit predicable. Plus only 11 episodes? I'm not sure what this show is going to attempt, but hopefully it won't try to incorporate the entire manga in 11 episodes. Then it would probably be rushed indeed. So far not a bad start, but there is definitely some room for improvement. Not sure what to expect from these 11 episodes? Perhaps an introduction to the real drama? Is this in fact a test run for an anticipated longer second season? Or will they keep seasons at around 11 episodes? I'm way ahead of myself here, stepping back and hoping this season does well, because so far it's the type of slice of life that I look for in anime.

The music is amazingly beautiful, makes me want to listen to jazz.

So far, this is pretty good, maybe topping Kuroko no Basket for one of the best anime this season (besides Fate/Zero IMO). The movements are fluid and smooth, very nice art.

Sentarou's drumming playing was sexy :)

I gotta say, I'm liking this one. Especially the jazz angle and Yoko Kanno. I'm impressed with how good Sentaro was animated while he was playing the drums. I remember from the first season of Nodame, they didn't even really show the characters' fingers while they played the piano most of the time, and in the later seasons, they used 3D animation for their hands. If they used any sort of 3D for Sentaro, then I definitely couldn't tell. It looked great.

The only negative thing I have to say concerns the OP and ED. While they are both good in their own right, I would have thought that an anime about jazz would have some of Yoko Kanno's stylings. In this regard, I was disappointed.

That was just freaking beautiful. The art, animation, backgrounds, everything. I love all of the characters so far, what a beautiful friendship between Sentarou and glasses guy (omg sorry forgot his name).

Been waiting for this series for a while and it did not disappoint me. WatanabeXKanno is something i have been waiting for since Cowboy Bebop finished. The music is amazing but its the characters in the first episode that defines the show at this point. I looking forward to seeing more of this series and just from the first episode this going be one of my favorites of the year.
