I can already see it among my favorites...

It has everything I love in it...

Little comedy, slice of life and it's pretty obvious this will get drama.

Exactly the show I've been waiting for.

3 main characters are great, and this is the first time I don't like one more than the others...

P.S.

Loved opening and ending

I knew I had to watch this series when I noticed it was going to be a slice of life about Jazz.
However, I didnt expect the animation and sound quality to be this good. I was truly impressed.

My favourite of the season so far, and I can't stop listening to the OP. Drum solo was great too. Am I the only one who has the op on repeat since watching?

The only true show this season that I have anticipated - and for all the reasons, it strikes a homerun right away. In one episode you can already feel and see how charismatic the bunch is, and that they all have stories to tell. Just like Kaoru is welcomed into Sentaro's and Ritsuko's world, I can't help but feel invited as well. I want to learn more about them, and see what they'll get up to.

And I forgot to mention that Im highly impressed with Sentarou´s Voice actor. The guy is a real pro: in a few months he voiced 4 characters with 4 different accents, being the most unique ones Kentarou of course and his voicing of Arata (Chihayafuru).

Im in love~ only 11 episodes is disappointing. I found my second fav show of the season after Tsuritama;D

amazing revelation of a first episode! i was hoping this could live up to what i though it could be, as shinichiro watanabe was named as director (responsible for two of (in my opinion) the best anime of all time, cowboy bebop and samurai champloo, and it's definitely looking like it could...loved the characters, art, story, etc., especially being a musician myself - the first stirrings of true musical/life freedom is an amazing feeling in one's formative years, and they really nailed that wonderful feeling on the head...can't wait for next week!!!! really nice to see a mature, original anime - this could definitely be my favorite of the season! kind of reminds me of paradise kiss in a weird way (similar vibe?)...

My only complaint is that, when they're not actually playing their instruments, there isn't much music in the show. That fight scene, though. Man. That was great and unexpected.

Wow, that's impressive.

Personally I'm not too fond with music anime but this first episode made a good start for me. The characters are unique in each of their ways, and the way the writers try to introduce the elements of music into the show was interesting as well.

However above all, Yoko Kanno's background music is the highlight of the episode. I love the jazz music that is being played throughout the episode, it blends well with the overall mood of the story.

Unfortunately, a downside of the show is the art. I personally don't like this kind of art style at all. It reminds me of those anime of the olden days. Probably the director tried to emphasize the fact that this anime is set in 1966 through its art, but I'm still not quite comfortable with it.

All in all, a great start. 4/5.

OP and ED are beyond beautiful.

Overall, I'm confident that this series will be one of the best anime of the season if not the year if the first episode is any indication.
So, this will revolve around Jazz? You certainly don't see that every day. Anyway, the animation at the drum scene was incredible as the movements synchronized with the music perfectly.

what a down to earth slice of life. i like the direction this is going. in fact i would go as far to say that i love it. so beyond great, i am really excited to see what there is to come with this now that we sort of got a little background information from each character already. this is a bromance that really warmed my heart. i will be rewatching this into next week because it was that fabulous!

I loved this episode from the very first second. It's feels a lot like Honey and Clover in a high school setting and with jazz instead of art.

So far all the characters are really likable and Ritsuko was just adorable whenever she interacted with Kaoru. There is such great chemistry between all of the characters and I think I am really going to enjoy watching them as they get to know each other and grow as people.

This was probably the best first episode of all the stuff I've started this season.

First series I've seen this season leaving me hungry for more. 5/5

I used to love the sound of Jazz and I studied Classical Guitar for a time, this will be perfect for me since it's like Beck with a Jazz variant. Characters are likable too, Kaoru, Sentarou, and Ri (or something). Looks like it's going places.

i normally don't really like jazz or rather i haven't heard enough of it so hopefully this anime will expose its viewers to some great jazz pieces. The first episode was excellent. It's going to be a heartwarming show with two guys polar opposites of each other becoming friends and jamming together in the basement of some music store.

Same person who sung the opening did the ones for Honey and Clover <3. Recognized her voice straight away. Characters became likeable really fast, I'm expecting great things.

Pretty solid first episode. Animation is great, OP and ED are top notch. I like the main characters.

Only failing might just be me; it's incredibly predictable. How many times have I seen this same story told, each time with a different hook? I rolled my eyes when they revealed that Sentarou's not just a drummer, he's a jazz drummer. *cue serious eye rolling* And look, Kaoru's a pianist! Well fancy that. Wonder if they'll start a band? *snickers*

But that's what I get for not really reading the synopsis at all.

OMGOMGOMOMGOMGOMGOMGOGMOMFODSKM:JS:DJFWPOEAJAEWRAWREWRK;JFWELDJAWIOEJFKAWEOSDFK'WIJEO8CIAW;E. That. Was. So. Amazing.

I just can't tell anyone how I feel right now. I want to like jump around and laugh and scream. That was so beautiful. So beautiful. So so so beautiful. I'm a musician, and when I saw that anime, I'll tell you that my heart stopped. Combining my two favorite hobbies, music and anime together? NO WAY. And it was amazing. When I heard Debussy's Clair de Lune, I wanted to cry. Debussy's my favorite composer, and that piece is one of my favorites behind him. I also love Jazz. One of my favorite music styles. And this episode was executed so well. The best pacing out of all the shows this season. Heck, the best show overall. It's like a diamond in the rough. Amazing show out of a crappy season.

So yeah, the music just enchanted me. What they played, and the OST was beautiful. Def. gonna get some of those piano tracks later on. I play the piano too, and I just can't help but relate to the main character so much. When I play piano, I just fall into another world. I feel exactly like him.
I also love the balance of the characters. They are perfect for each other, and they all complement each other. I love their personalities. Everything about them is wonderful.

Only thing I don't like is that they seem to put Jazz over Classical. Jazz is just a different style, and I honestly love both of them.
I really hope I get to learn a little more about Jazz music, especially since I'm playing a Jazz piece right now. I need to get that swing just like Satoru said :)

5/5 - I can't explain in words how much I enjoyed it. Best show this season fo sho. Potential 10 <3

Kinda reminds me a little of xxxHolic and Natsume Yuujinchou in ways too, except with less fantasy elements.

You know, I haven't really seen too many slice of life anime's, but this, this is captivating to say the least. The animation level is that of almost movie quality and the music is fantastic! It seems like Apollon will have some interesting underlying themes particularly involving the slope, probably a cool metaphor of some sort. Definitely can't wait for the next episode.
