H2O: Footprint in the sand question * Spoiler*

Ok so i just finished watching this anime and i'm really confused about few things, and hope avid anime lovers here can clear some stuff out for me.

In Episode 12, when Hayami jumped in front of the train my biggest question occured. I didn't understand the reason for her decision. After searching some plot summary on the episode I found two answers.

1. Hayami found out about how Takuma's mother died, and was trying to sacrifice herself to bring back Takuma's memory.

2. Hayami went to save a boy on the rail track. *But this brings up another question on why Hayami said to Takuma and his mom is always with him etc..

3. Anyone else can tell me what it meant?

Also at the very end when Otoha came back telling Takuma that the spirit committee decided to return Hayami. So does this mean Hayami is alive again? or is she only a spirit like Otoha and can be only seen by Takuma?

It's been a long time since I've last watched H2O, but from what I can remember, wasn't it just to save that boy, and it just happened to end horribly?

Its sort of a mixture between both 1 and 2. She went to save the boy but in result died the same way his mother did therefore bringing back his memories. Also, she is brought back to life and everyone could see her. Think of it as a second chance! :)
