God, this episode was so heartbreaking. But what really broke my heart how Kanba and Himari said to Shoma there strangers now! Also what broke my heart is that Shoma was the most who got hurt. I just get a feeling Himari will die and Kanba, well, idk and Shoma will be the only one alive. I also get the feeling there will not be a happy ending.
I loved hor Ringo back talked at the journalist XD i hope she can make Shoma feel better...
When Kanba and Shoma started to fight, and Shoma reminded him there brothers...!
And when Himari said goodbye to Shoma and gave him back the scarf... I cried.

This episode has been the saddest but one of the most awesomest in the whole series.

How did himari forgot about everything about kanba not being his brother?
So as the former leader of his group , satoneshi real plan was to push kanba into needing money and thus helping his group to get it.

amazing episode.

im really hoping for a non-happy ending for the three sibilings , but it will probably happen.

It's possible that Himari was too caught up in playing "house" with shouma and kanba that she forgot about their tough childhood. But unfortunately like everyone throughout life, they need to face reality and move on from it. Shouma's realization that his "family" is crumbling and the fact that he was so caught up in his fate couldn't hold them together was so powerful in this episode. So much that although he tried to prevent Kanba from continuing what he was doing that he lost his friend and his brother. Same as his sister and his soulmate. He ended pushing them away even though his actions seemed otherwise. This is so tragic and I'm b'awwing mad hard now ;-;

It was all an illusion that Kanba thought up. He felt like if he headed kiga, he would think that Kenzan would be proud of him. No one knows what happened to them other than that they are dead. Also, I honest don't think that Tabuki or Yuri is dead, we'll see in the next episode

err wow this was all over the place. none of the main 3 are actually related ...to each other or the parents? Kanba was hallucinating his parents, and Kenzan has been dead. now Tabuki or Yuri got stabbed.

yet Kanba is siblings with Natsume and their father is dead.

oh wow this is like a big jumbled mess, and I have no idea how it's going to end.

so there could still kinda be wincest?!

My thought exactly.
I think more like selling them, or using the doll as transport and places them in different toy stores, maybe?

Glad I picked up this series. Just caught up to it in two days xD
This episode was heartbreaking. All the 3 trio aren't related to each other (I knew somehow about Kanba but I though Himari and Shouma is siblings so that came out as big surprise), the "family" broke and Kanba joining the organization.

Also, it hurts me to hear Himari saying Shouma is her soulmate. Reminds me back in Hana Yori Dango. Soulmate doesn't always means its the person you're bound to be with, but the person opens a new door for you.

I take my bet on Shouma dying to save Himari, Kanba and the world. That doesn't mean Himari isn't dying, she will die. What Sanetoshi said strikes me when he said the medicine would not last forever. I take that she won't last long and would die along side Shouma. Llooked at the OP near the end where Kanba, Shouma and Himari running. Kanba was running to the left while Shouma and Himari was running straight and the same place. I though it would means something and had a bad feeling that it might suggest what I think. But I could be wrong.

3 episode to go, lets get some more mindblown :D

This episode came as a surprise, since the beginning I always thought Shouma, Kanba and Himari were blood related.

Now seeing them as they are now... gives you a weird feeling, as if their family is falling apart, which it is.

I think Shouma is gonna have to get his act together if he wants to stop Kanba. I don't think Masako and Himari are gonna pull anything off.

Still waiting for some more Ringo action... if there is any.

Ah, that explains it... They're all just illusions. Makes sense with the opening. Now that I think of it, you can see their hair colours as references: Kanba doing bad things, red hair, Shoma trying to do good things, blue hair, sort of hell and heaven. Himari has brown hair: neutral. Shouldn't Shoma be leaving instead of Himari? I mean, it's decorated for her. Fai-to, Himari!

^Probably the most "drastic" change in the OP so far, only one I can recall were the glass shards flying by Himari's face after a certain episode.

Don't know if anyone else noticed this, but the music in this episode was incredible. And this is probably the biggest shift in a single episode in an anime that I've seen. Damn.

It feels like everything is coming together, but even if it doesn't and it's still mainly style over (hinted at) substance at the end.. I don't care. I really enjoyed this show.

That looks like those vine-like/whatever things that come out of Kanba whenever PoC pokes her hand inside him in the survival strategy:

http://altairandvega.files.wordpress.com/2011/07/vlcsnap-2011-07-08-12h02m58s196.jpg

Pretty much confirms that whoever is dancing with Himari in the OP is none other than Kanba, and the apple might be hinting at her receiving/having received one from him.

This will probably be one of my shortest posts about penguins:
1) too many IRL issues I had to manage last week
2) episode 21 was mostly revealing rather than questioning

But there are a couple of interesting remarks I have to post about. Simply compare thw two images in the spoiler.

Now, don't ask me what's on the pic to the right. I absolutely accidentally smashed into it while looking through someone's photos of the trip to Tokyo. The comment to the pic says that these are ?ad constructions? somewhere around the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower. The very moment I saw the pic I thought about ep.21. But nobody on the net could give me an explanation what this actually is. So I'm clueless about its meaning and possible relation to the show.
The only thing I know is that the Tokyo Tower and Roppongi Hills are both located in the Minato district (ward) of Tokyo, fairly close to each other.

Speaking of Tokyo Tower, do you know that there's another TV Tower under construction in Tokyo nowadays? It is called Tokyo Sky Tree. It's already the highest building in Japan and will become the highest building in the world when it's done. Why did I highlight the Tokyo Sky part? I did it because there is a Tokyo Sky Metro in the anime. IRL it's simply Tokyo Metro, the Sky part only appeared in the anime. Well, I know that it was mostly for the allusion to the "Night on the Galactic Railroad" and the "train of fate", or "train to heaven", or "train to other world" - whatever you call it.
But perhaps there's that other meaning in this Sky part? I mean just like Tokyo Sky Metro was considered to be the symbol of the modern Tokyo, I wouldn't be surprised if the Tokyo Sky Tree became the symbol of modern Tokyo once it'd been finished, completely replacing the Tokyo Tower. And Tokyo Tower is pretty much the symbol of Momoka. Just how many times have we already seen it shining in the night in Mawaru?

This actually made me think that perhaps KIGA group intends to demolish the Tokyo Tower this time? Doesn't make much sense in terms of casualties... But might be interesting enough as a concept of killing the source of light in the city, forcing them to realise how precious it was, how frozen they have become that they stopped noticing such matters. We'll see...

Another point is - I'm surprised nobody still posted the most obvious reference:

Look for two things on this pic:
1) the Pink coat in the Princess's wardrobe
2) Princess's outlook
The reason I highlighted Princess is of course the Princess of the Crystal. Their dresses look very similar (especially the bottom, skirt part). However Himari's coat, the one she left home and went to Kamba, also strongly resembles the princess's clothes. Does it mean that Himari is approaching the destination of fate and transforms into the Princess of the Crystal?

Btw, I noticed that the symbol of the Natsume (two leaves in a circle) clan can also be considered as a recycled sign.

And the newspaper Masako's granddad was reading in episode 16 also had an article about recycling too (http://jp.japancorp.net/article.asp?Art_ID=19462).
So, PingForce, the environmentalists, as well as the KIGA group now, consider recycling as a solution to the trash. They rely on recycling (chosen ones, one of them is Kamba) to clean the world from trash.

I think Washizuki-sensei is already dead. That plate of fugu (blow) fish is likely a reference to death. The doctor himself is already a ghost, he just hasn't come to realise it at that point. I think Sanetoshi pretty much killed him when he replaced him as Himari's doctor in ep.12. Another reason why I think this happened - Washizuki-sensei worked in the Pingroup hospital, i.e. he could be considered a member of that organisation in a way...

Sometimes, when I look at Takakura Chiemi hair and Esmeralda's wig... I sense something fishy...

Shouma needs a good kick from Ringo to start fighting already. Kamba gives his all. Himari gives her all. It's time for Shouma to stop being trash, to stop running away and save the world. He has a superfrog next to him who he can rely on. What's more, her name's Ringo - apple, a symbol of love and universe.
So, Come on Shouma, take it already, obtain the penguindrum and fight! GAMBATTE NE!!!!

so much happened in this episode! so apparently kanba wasn't talking with his parents the whole time that's pretty weird(so is the mom dead as well?). and that reporter told both shouma and himari the truth and kanba did not like that one bit and took action(i remember not to get on his bad side :P) and someone got stabbed in that shop.

man they all broke up :( man this episode was pretty epic

and it continues to be weird...

1. satenoshi isnt even in that picture when he's talking to the Doctor... and yet he somehow photoshops himself in at the last second..

2. I thought kan was siblings with masako.. what happened to her when kan's dad died? who the **** was the dad that masako kept dreaming about....

3. weren't kan and sho already in the same family before either of them met himari? In the ep where sho meets himari, it looked like sho and kan were already family.... and yet in this episode, he only goes to their family after sho and himari are already together...

4. how the hell has no one found kenzan's body there? seriously.. its been what? a billion years since he's rotting there?

Damn it Kanba! I know he only has good intentions in mind but he's gonna end up bringing Himari down along with him.

So from ep1 until now the questions surrounding the Penguin Drum hasn't gotten any clearer. There probably was some subtle hints shown in the flashbacks but I still can't connect any of them together. My guess is that the Penguindrum is something intangible, maybe love (though that would be realllly cheesy)

So we have finally definite proof that Kanba is succumbing and not only losing any sense of morality left in him but also losing grip on reality. In the end all his talk of him only being able to save Himari seems to be resulting in the entire opposite...
"The ends justify the means" is what Kanba's behaviour always seemed to be - the exact opposite of Sho's view. We'll see how this is about to turn out.

Actually, I prefer Sho's way of doing things. Is it okay to do anything as long as the "good cause" asks for it? I personally don't think so, especially as Kanba is tainting himself so much that it is causing Himari much more pain.

There's also a suspicious lack of PotC lately. We still need to sort out, WHO she really is. We know Masako's grandfather's spirit is inhabiting Mario's hat, so do we really have Momoka in PotC's?

WHOA. This show keeps freaking surprising me with every episode.

Shouma's parents were already dead and Kanba actually took over as leader? Holy shit.

I've been waiting to see Kanba and Shouma fight ever since they revealed that the two were not blood brothers. That was awesome.

I'm guessing Yuri actually does love Tabuki and it seems the both of them have finally accepted that their revenge is meaningless.

Also guessing Kanba will die. I doubt Shouma will die and Himari will probably be saved by some miracle.
