The two shows/manga/VNs are in the same universe, but have entirely separate stories. Not having seen one really won't make a difference in watching the other. Personally, I think you should watch C;H anyways. I really enjoyed it, though most people on the site seem to hate it (I honestly don't see why, so maybe someone can explain that).

Allow me.
ChaosHead started wonderfully. It had a story full of potential and seems like it could do no wrong. However then it nonchalantly threw aside it's most interesting points(Example: New Gene murders) and instead decided to focus on strange swords and supernatural bullcrap info dumped by various heroines. Each heroine being more pointless that the last. For example, what would change if you remove Kozue for the story completely? Answer? Nothing. Our protagonist became progressively more annoying and ended up a stereotypical shounen hero. Our story lost it's intriguing mystery and adopted stupid superpowers.
Basically we hate it because it gave us such hope and only horribly disappointed us.

So that's also why I can awry about this stow. I don't care what potential I see in the start. I am not getting my hopes up.

Definitely good, just like Chaos. I hope that it will at least be as good, probably better. Chaos was screwed by the number of episodes, this will not.

I like it, I haven't seen a thought provoking anime in a while (as opposed to an anime which I can watch and not have to hypothesize what's happening). I'm curious if the show can stay interesting.

As for all the confusion, I am personally thinking: His text message was sent to the past (I don't have an explanation on why it split up), since his message was sent to the past the present was altered. (I'm probably not right, but whatever)

well good job on them being able to Mindfuck me in just the first episode,i'm enjoying the cast i like how crazy the male lead is don't get to many of those these days and Mayuri VA by Hanazawa Kana =win, and to all those wondering if they should watch Chaos; head to understand this better,it's not gonna help that much but i bet you'll find alot of easter eggs while watching this so i'm gonna keep a eye out for em and on top of all of this the art style is just like Black Rock shooter which i loved!

Multiple time tracks with memory seepage from one to the other, murdered characters coming back to life, gel bananas, and a microwave/cell phone that texts to the past.......o.k., I can see why the lead is a mad scientist.

Have we already had our Madoka moment or are there still bigger mfs to come?

I really think you are right, it seems really logical after all, right?
And for the "split up"... time travelling is already rather hard, this divinding a message wouldn't be too surprising.

By the way it is a rather realistic way of looking at time travels, I love it. Rather than just changing ONE little thing without problems, here, a LITTLE and unrelated thing change litteraly EVERYTHING. A bit like the butterfly effect, for those who know.
(for those who don't, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Butterfly_effect )

I don't dislike "classical" time travels. But it is a rather unusual and original way to do it.

And yes, a mind-screwing or a thought provoking anime sometimes is really a good thing, I agree with you. Usually, it means that the anime will be hard to understand, but it gives a different feeling from a typical anime.

well good job on them being able to Mindfuck me in just the first episode

You're nice here. I felt mindfucked after maybe 5 minutes. And I'm used to this kind of works and knew what was going to happen;. I can't even imagine how it was for newcomers.

This episode reminded me so much of Texhnolyze. I can feel Hamasaki Hiroshi's direction.

I don't worry about people dropping this show for this single episode. It was made to be confusing, and that's were the anime plot will shine. For mindblowing sake!

High hopes.
And... I really need to watch it with a better quality.

I think your on the right track. At the beginning when Kurisu Makise (hot dead chick) meets Rintarou (the crazy Dr) she says he was trying to say something to her. I'm guessing that's what this episode led us up to. Next episode he'll try and explain that he saw her death during the time travel lecture and then we'll probably have another time jump. As for the messages. I'm guessing they where sent all at the same time from different Rintarou's within the same realm of existence. kind of you being 3 places at once. You can grab hints from the guy talking about his time travel theories. These are all complete guesses though

Good first episode. It's going to be confusing because it's plot-based after all, and it's a complex story with different mechanics and characters. They need time to start introducing it all.

I liked it. All the characters were great and I can't wait to see more of Makise and Rin~~~ The laugh is perfect!

I haven't played the original game, but I'm sure this will be my Madoka Magica of this season. I mean seriously. I can feel all those foreshadowing thrown everywhere already. I was utterly blown when I saw Makise alive.

I feel similarly. This show is definitely hinting at what's going on, but doing so in such a roundabout way that it's impossible to figure out without already knowing. I just hope that it starts explaining things within the next couple of episodes, 'cause I don't want to go through the whole show not understanding why things are happening as they are.

On a slightly different subject, I like the main cast so far. They each have a unique personality, and Okabe in particular seems like a lot of fun. Unfortunately, we don't really know anything at all about Makise yet, so the only reason we have to care about her is because she's involved somehow. I don't think that only giving her a few lines of dialogue was a wise choice in light of that. Hopefully we can get to know more about her in the next episode.

Intruiging first ep. I'm waiting for the TV-version, as the Nico broadcast was pretty horrible, lacking BGM etc. However, it manages to create a nice dark atmosphere even without BGM. Also very nice to hear Mamoru Miyano in a mature sounding voice.

Yep, I think so too.
We've seen the timeshift after he sent the message about Makise's death, and moments earlier she hinted at the possibility of a 2nd Okarin.
It's mostly Okarin not able to comprehend matters that makes things confusing, not the events itself.

I wonder how that micro-wave phone works though, seeing how that microwave in their lab turns everything into green jelly.

Also, not understanding what is going on is not a sin. Give it some 10 episodes and then you might get a thing or two.

Honestly, I don't know what is making this series 'mindfuck'. Everything was clearly stated, except the fact that Okarin being Chunibyou and foreshadowing thrown everywhere.

What was stated?
1. Okarin saw satellite safely landing + Makise death.
2. Sent text, which sent to past, divided into three parts, and collision of time/space occurred.
3. New universe has new Okarin who has different memory from the parallel world, and it has Makise alive and satellite crashed for certain reason.

What was forshadowed?
1. Mayuri's past has something
2. Makise said she was told something from Okarin moment before, when Okarin himself knows nothing.
3. Microwave turning banana into green disgusting gel.

What was the mystery?
1. the reason for all these happenings.
---

Anyway, since is called 'Kami-game' in Japan community by everyone I met, I automatically have to be biased to hype this series.

Animation was looking pretty damn good consistently except the webcasts vid quality was so bad that it was hard to tell if it really was as good as it seemed.

Music seems good. No OP or ED in the ep I saw but it was 20 mins so I'd guess it cut them out. DAMN YOU WEBCASTS. DAMN YOU.

Plot is looking awesome.

I'll have to rewatch it when it airs in hd.

I am disappoint. Really, just because the name is "similar", they're set in the same universe, and the original creator is the same doesn't necessarily mean they have anything to do with each other.
And besides, Steins;Gate is many, many times better than ChäoS;HEAd, just sayin'.
