Let's engage in a gray matter workout. Post your favorite anime that incorporates philosophy.

Kino's Journey (Kino No Tabi)

IMHO all of them are good. The series especially made me think, sometimes for hours after viewing. I would be sure to wait at least a day to watch another episode so I could properly digest it. When I tried to view the series the first time, I hated Kino's character design, and dropped it. That is actually part of the plot though. So, if you're thinking of dropping it due to this fact, then I recommend giving it another few episodes. It is a dark series, and one of the few, if not only stories that has intrigued me after being schooled on directors like Bergman & Godard. It's highly philosophical and bitingly realistic.

A anime I can recall that made me think is 5 Centimeters per Second.

Behold of my awesomeness~
controversial and/or sensitive topics likely devolve into the same repetitive, derogatory, abusive, and harassing comments can no longer be posted.
But my feels.

Me too, that was an impressive movie in my opinion.
But the most impressive one for me was Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind.

I would use it I guess. For instance, why does a serial killer who murdered 7 people deserve to live? Luckily this kind of power is not available.

Definitely lucky this power isn't available. Wouldn't be too many people left in the world. (=

Welcome to the NHK is one of those animes that make you think. I was simply amazed like how it relates to me on so many levels.

Well, they thought me that you shouldn't judge anyone by their appearance.
And Welcome to the NHK made me think about the purpose of life, worthiness of life etc.

Ah well, I'm not much of a philosopher xD

Those are good lessons!

Welcome to NHK was great, can't remember why I never finished it. I plan to start it from the beginning when I do though.

lol I'm just getting back to NHK now. I've started watching from the beginning despite being nearly finished with series originally.

Anyway ~ I thought this discussion had to show a little love to Tatami Galaxy. It definitely makes you exercise your brain, and your eyes too bc they talk so fast that the subs kinda blink by!

watch this short song from ep 4 and if anything intrigues you about the series than you must watch it! pay particular attn to the words of the song

and here's the ending which I just had to post bc it's one of absolute favorites

This series oozes philosophy in every ep and as a whole. If you like that kind of thing you will love it just as much as I did. xD

ef - a tale of the two (as in both series)

I got me thinking about what love truly means when faced with a situation that seems impossible

Serial Experiment Lain and Haibane Renmei, there's nothing over them.

Furthermore Honey and Clover is great too, with it's romantic and artistic way of represent the passage from childhood to adulthood.

Wasn't Kino's Journey writer influenced by the Galaxy Express 999 manga? I believe I read that somewhere.

Yea I believe I read that too, but it's been a couple of years. That manga and other works by him have influenced many stories and direction.

Finally got to Haibane Renmei ~ And omg it makes me think about a lot of stuff. Mostly about religion, but also about regret, morality, love, friendship... and still others I'm sure. The series is so subtle in it's thought-provoking stimulation. I've found myself in tears throughout most of the show. It's so sad to me.

I'm sorry I have to say this and it made some fans angry as welll, but I disliked Haibane Renmei. I actually found it to be overemotional, so go ahead and shoot me now.

As for Tatami Galaxy, I recently finished that and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very nicely done.

Monster was a good anime that put my gray mass to work. Loved the ending especially.

Amnesia is an anime that made me think a ton, unless I am stupid I think it makes you think. You have to watch it till the end, its not one of those where you watch half of the season then quit. Make sure if you are looking it up on google or something, search, "Amnesia the anime" otherwise other stuff will pop up.
