I just hope they don't change what the movie was going to be, it may hurt it a bit but I want this as close to Kon's vision as possible.

Production was stopped at all?

I guess I missed something along the way.

edit: Ah yes, Kon Satoshi's death might have been a good reason to stop it temporarily..

kinda torn here, on one hand I wanna see his last work , on another, I have no idea how they are even gonna get close to his vision, I can see the sections he directed will stand out like a sore thumb.

hopefully story boards where already done, so they basically have the instruction manual to go by.
It doesn't think, it doesn't feel, it doesn't laugh or cry..... All it does from dusk till dawn is make the soldiers die.

I believe in Madhouse that they'll do their best to make this movie as good as they can in Satoshi Kon's honour.

Well from what I heard the production already done 70% of its, so they just finish the rest.

Oh, thank goodness this film is going to get made. Just found out Susumu Hirasawa's gonna do the score, so that gives me a lot more faith that this film can still work.

Satoshi Kon said in his final blog that he was worried about the film because a lot of it was still sealed away in his mind, but I hope he left the others at MADHOUSE enough to create a true Satoshi Kon film without the man himself. I am sure they wouldn't want to let him down. Really looking forward to this and am very glad to hear Hirasawa Susumu is providing the music.

Satoshi seems like one of those guys who'd haunt the studio until the film is made to his satisfaction.

I got so excited when I saw the headline, and then I realized you necro'd the thread... T_T

I believe the most current news on the film -- from Otakon 2011 -- is that production's been halted. I think it'll happen eventually, though.

The new owners of Madhouse aren't interested in this movie, and the major staff members are now with Production I.G iirc. We can be 99% sure it's dead forever. Sadly.

And "sorry" for the necro, but where else to ask about it if this announcement was the only thing it ever came to?

Wow. That's an insult to Satoshi Kon's memory. I'm actually appalled.

The website is back up, which is a good sign i hope. (It was 403'd for quite a while) I also read on the Satoshi Kon wikia that it was being worked on, however, i could not get a citation, so it is only speculation at this point until I can find proof. I refuse to give up hope.

If this movie is on a halt due to financial reasons, I will open a damn donation pool to raise money for this movie. I cannot let it die, or be buried for X-years.... Satoshi Kon changed my life and my view of fiction/anime/life. I can't just watch his last wish disappear.. it breaks my heart.

<EDIT>
To be precise, here is the post from satoshi kon wikia:

"In 2011, the studio's president Masao Maruyama announced that production was halted for financial reasons, but has since resumed. According to Maruyama, at least 600 of 1500 animated shots have been finished and the release date is still being decided, but a 2013 release is possible. "

Again, no citation linked, but I can only hope that it is in fact true.

There could be a lot of reasons for the site to be 403'd.
And that statement from Maruyama is an old one, there was another one after that saying production was stopped once again.

Maruyama has been interviewed also this year at Otakon and sadly it's still difficult for him to finish the production.

"Unfortunately, we still don't have enough money. My personal goal is to get it within five years after his passing. I'm still working hard towards that goal."
