How closely does Blood+ follow the manga?

I really liked the manga Blood+. Too bad whenever I go to the library, vol. 3 isn't on the shelves. I read Vol.1 and 2 and thought they were plain amazing! When I checked out the first couple episodes of the anime... It didn't follow the manga. I was dissapointed at the anime for that and stopped watching.

So what do you guys think? I read somewhere the anime came out first and then the manga. so Anime turned manga? Is it true?
Should I start watching the anime again. The reviews say it's awesome...

You have done your research well. The anime did in fact come first.

I've not read the manga, but the series is among my favorite. Either because it caused me to get interested into anime again at the time I watched it or it was just that damn good. Either way, it's a must watch.

Surprising that anime came first, it's unusual for anime w/o basis in manga or novel to be paced so well and have no filler.

The anime is an original production. The story of both are similar in some aspects but pretty different in others. I recommend you give a try, it's a great anime.
