Did, like, very much actually.
This pretty much sums up my feelings. I was satisfied and the ending was more emotional than I thought it would be possible with the current settings.

After a heart transplant it's not like everything is all back to normal. I think the longest anyone has lived after a successful heart transplant is 20 years or so.

Some die a year after the transplant, some 3 years, some 5 years, etc.

Key definitely lost it's magic on this one...there were plot holes everywhere, and the ending was left relatively open ended.

This leaves a bad taste in my mouth, just like that garbage called Air...however it entertained me more than air in many different ways while still making me look forward to each new episode.

I'm being generous by giving it a 9/10..so much left unanswered and so much left plot wise that was never explained. However, like Code Geass it was a fun ride no matter how shitty it was.

Eh guys, if everything is just going to be sum up, the whole series would become so predictable. It is just the way manga and anime works;they let you have your own ending.

I thought to wroted like this but you did it before me, you got a point there for sure. Otonashi died indeed then she wouldn't had his heart

LostGamer said:
In just reading the last few posts I see a lot of confusion. Here is my take:

- Time in the "dead" world is irrelevant or non-linear thus it would explain why Kanade was there longer.

- Kanade was never dead, she explained that she wanted to thank him and somehow had gone to that world to find him.

- Otanashi died how else would Kanade get his heart? The last 30 seconds reflect reincarnation and fate, not uncommon in romance/dramas involving death.

That is how I make sense of things anyhow. :)

Its open to another season but I think it would be anticlimactic. Though looking back at Clannad and Clannad ~After Story~ I think Key could find some way to pull it off :)

To be honest this ending was alright with some strong emotional moments. Angel Beats! felt too rushed and anyone who says it's the best they've seen, probably needs to watch more anime.

I'm a bit biased as I was a pretty strong advocate of OtonashixYuri, but the premise of a 13 episode anime with so many characters was just plain stupid.

6/10 for me, dropping from an 8/10 during episodes 11 - 13.

Despite what everybody else says, I loved it. I enjoyed it, and that's all I care about. 10/10

Also, albeit the show itself was a bit fast, there are still a couple things you still need to consider:
- Seen Key's past anime? The endings are very vague and open, and it's up to your imagination to interpret the "what if"s.
- The entire show revolved around a "supernatural" and "surreal" environment, so you can't expect everything to be crystal clear. I say this, but critics hate this element nevertheless.
- Lastly, if you followed through the show closely enough, many things were explained through dialogue. I don't know about you, but I thought many things were explained and implied quite well.

Oh, and another thing:

- There's going to be an unaired special on the up-and-coming Angel Beats DVD release, which I will be DYING to wait and watch.

Thus, the moral of the story is: If you are a type of viewer who wishes to have every single action and thought explained---KEY is not for you.

So Yuri just disappeared like that? And before Hinata?? Does that mean Hinata is more important than Yuri? And she didn't even say a thing to Otonashi and Hinata. Also, the personality change was not really needed.

Otonashi's plan....went according to plan. He let everyone disappear then decides to stay with Kanade. That doesn't make any sense!! He has some hidden agenda after all. And what is with that talk about the heart? Could have done with more explanation. And what was that last part? They were reborn? Does not compute. Guess Otonashi turned into a stalker and decided to just grab a person he doesn't know in that life.

Please, do not explain or speculate further about the meaning of all these things here, because it really won't help that this show failed at explaining everything. Do not excuse that this doesn't have more episodes as a lot of shows did well with just 13 episodes. It needed a good writer and producer. It has a good idea but it was wasted by poor execution, unneeded moments and plot holes. 7/10 and that's a low score from me.

inb4 people trying to speculate further about the ending and wishing for a second season, which definitely won't happen.

By the way, Otonashi is a plotting scumbag douche.

He made everyone dissapear and then has a change of heart (haha, heart) and wants to stay because of Kanade, and then he tries making her stay with him. What a selfish prick.

Meh: that's my opinion. It turned out kind of weird in the end, but it's probably one of the better endings that they could have done. Except for maybe making the whole think into a conspiracy to rule the world by Yuzuru+Kanade at the end (for sheer comic value, returning the show to where it came). But that's just a joke overall, after breaking down this series, I give it a 9/10, with the characters and ending detracting from the otherwise stellar performance in this anime.
And so, I ask you,, sir (or madam), are you wary of THE INTERROBANG‽‽‽

And that's when Kanade makes sure he doesn't stray off his path. I'm sure most people would have second thoughts about making their lovers disappear.

Good episode, though not nearly as good as the series could have been.

I enjoyed this show....but I wish there was more time for the ending and epilogue. I'll give this an 8/10 because I did enjoy this show. I thought Clannad and Kanon was better though.

In the previous episode, the program said that love can not manifest itself, and if it did the after world would become an eternal paradise for the person that manifested love. Because Otonashi began to love Kanade (i.e. manifested love), it is implied that Otonashi will probably stay in the afterlife forever or until Kanade dies again and they finally meet each other once more.

The after scenario in the end where "Otonashi" and "Kanade" (I am putting quotes because that Otonashi and Kanade are not necessarily the characters that we saw during the anime) meet is probably a parallel world.

OK here is what i think really happen.

After they all disappear they were most likely reincarnated and back to the same world, but the last part is most likely saying they all do not have memories of wat happen in the afterlife but they can still recall small parts like songs or lyrics, which made otonashi remember the humming.

last but not least: WTF!!!!! otonashi like kanade!!! epic shit i thought he liked yuri!!!!!!! too freaking sudden, like as though key got nothing better to do

The question that's been picking at the back of my neck this entire series was: why is it only high school students; what about adults and children who died with regrets? I'm just going to guess that either they died at that age or returned to that age to relive their high school life...although that wouldn't make much sense if their time in high school was fulfilling but adulthood wasn't...oh well.

For this episode itself, for me it was quite a bit of a tear-jerker, especially during the Yuzuru x Kanade scene and epilogue. As with many other people have said and thought, Key wasted a good chance to have a solid 24 episodes of pure win, and would be remembered for years to come that would rival classics like works from Hayao Miyazaki. Unfortunately, most likely due to financial issues and/or the higher ups being stupid dicks; that didn't happen. If time was the issue, I wouldn't have minded waiting for them like I did with Time of Eve (and was it ever a long wait for a mere 15 minutes, giving a reason to see tomorrow), if it meant more and/or better episodes and ending.

I would have really liked to see at least the favourite characters of everyone have a bit more screen time like Shiina, TK the enigma...etc. But a good thing that happened was the (opinionated) scene where Yuzuru and Kanade were reborn and were able to meet again. Although if it were up to me, I would have crammed some of the other characters like finding Waldo in the background walking past Kanade to see if anyone would notice.

Something doesn't match up properly with that. Kanade was in the Battlefront long before Otonashi came along. If she got his heart, that would mean that he must have died before her, and that she would have arrived at the battlefront after he did.

Anyway; the show was crap. Pacing was far too quick, too much stuff left unexplained, and it had the potential to be loads better. (Plus, I didn't feel attached to any of the characters in the slightest, except for maybe TK).

Such a bittersweet episode. I liked it. And I find the sudden disappearances quite effective. Like I said before, there doesn't need to be bangs and flashes when they go.

I think it was intentional to leave a lot of questions unanswered so that all of us would spend forever debating it. The biggest one for me is why was Otonashi in that final scene when he didn't disappear form the world like the others?
But, while I agree it was frustrating to have no answers, I can't hate the anime for it.

As we have all said before, this seriously needed to be 24 eps long.
Let us hope there is enough lasting interest in the show to warrant a remake. For that case, I will be buying merch (and I'm cross my fingers for a Yui model).

Ok, Tenshi-Kanade said that she wanted to thank the person who donated the heart to her soo much that se got lost and wandered to this world => this mean Tenshi is not dead but in somekind of coma states nearest to death.

Which also means Otonashi is dead for sure with his heart inside kanade's. and i assume she wakes up in real world

I'm really pleased with the ending.. ^_^

I thought Otonoashi might not be clear with his feelings for Kanade at the end, but glad that wasn't the case..
Never expected Kanade being the recipient of Otonashi's actual heart, but still a nice twist..
So in the end they were given a second chance in life I guess.. Though I find it puzzling finding both Otonashi and Kanade alive, since Otonashi's heart was transplanted to Kanade right? so how come Otonashi is still alive? Another world maybe? Argg, this will be bugging me until I get a clear explanation.. XD
Guahh, why didn't they show Kanade's face at the last scene, oh well fanart will be popping out anyways.. >_<

this is what I thougth too...they also never explained how Yuri or Kanade died

slightly incorrect they never explained any of the deaths but yuzuru's

as for kanade it could be possible that she died because her body rejected the heart (which would suck)

Wow, someone actually notices the discrepancy that Kanade was long in the Battlefront before Otonashi, yet she had his heart.

The ending is really lame... I have this feeling that the anime works on event-peace-event-peace or fast-slow-fast-slow type episodes. The previous episode you have a huge event and now suddenly it's peace again. Plus what's up with the graduation ending? That scene that took about half of the ep didn't have much meaning in it. I would rather they fill it with flashbacks instead.

And did Otonashi really had no regrets and grudges against God? He was so close to finishing his medical studies when he died, and moreover, right before the rescue crew came. Plus his sister too. And Angel was in the end a normal character like Yuri and the others? She seems to be much more special than that, her friends keep disappearing, she can use angel player etc.

Overall, 6 due to crappy ending. Hope they clear up the last scene with OVAs or something.

Okay ending, wasted potential due to the lack of time and overly large cast. It did not meet up to the hype it generated but still was decent. I really liked what Yuzuru was wearing at the very end. I want that.

My regret when watching this episode is that I've been poisoned by the nico video of a Kamiya Hiroshi imposter singing Ren'ai Circulation as Izaya. Both instances of Yuzuru saying "se no..." immediately made me imagine the next line being "demo sonna n ja dame~" XD

Also, I want to eat mapo tofu.

That's why I voted 1.

It was such a nice anime yet.... it ended up a 'rush'. It would have been better if Jun Maeda made it a little longer.... but I do understand that the title itself speaks louder. "ANGEL BEATS" A very nice Kanade who doesn't have a heart... etc.. etc.. etc.. yet I would have love the anime if Otonashi is with Yuri. Just my own perspective.
