THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

I don't think I'd be all that forgiving of Misui if I was one of the team members that got injured in his little raid, especially not if he got a starting position (and I think we all know he will). there was no real surprise in this though, there wouldn't have been a point to wasting all that time on his backstory if he wasn't joining the team. I really hope the pacing of this series improves soon. there are too many unnecessary flashbacks and everything takes just slightly too long to happen.

btw, all this drama could have been avoided if that doctor had called either his parents or his school.

Yeah, I think everyone expected Mitsui to become part of the team. Poor, broken Mitsui needed to cause a brawl to realize he wanted to play again. >_>

I'm a bit bummed that we aren't notified of any consequences for what happened...

Edit: It looks like they mention the incident in the next episode. :)

I think it was a good turn in that when we first saw Mitsui I don't think anyone could have guessed he would be part of the team. Of course with the backstory and stuff it became more obvious but yeah.

@jacobpaige I agree, they could do with less flashbacks....

Mitsui's reason for changing wasn't as deep as I thought, but I still enjoyed this episode and all of the emotions that came with it, especially Kogure's heartfelt talk of his dreams. Guessing this is going to be their official top 5 players for the inter-high, hoping to see some games inbound.

Hopefully this is the last of these backstory episodes, the pace has slowed down far too much, we need to get back to some Sakuragi-focused storylines.

I'm sorry but I feel no pity for Mitsui... as someone who suffered multiple knee injuries I fully understand his frustration, want to train (what causes more injuries), being down and disappointed about missing big tournament and etc. I get it all BUT... The dude has fully recovered and instead of trying to train and get back into basketball, he just freaking quits and decides that being an ass and getting beaten up is better....

He, who actually has a proper chance of playing again! Unlike me who had tons of surgeries and still can't fully recover. My sport career is 100% over while he still had all the opportunities and he just wasted them. No Respect whatsoever.

He is a self centred prick who deserved a proper punishment for his action, not being accepted to a team just like that.

Seriously, going to such extent to make us despise a character, only to sugarcoat it with a lame backstory to make us pity him ? Sorry but that doesn't work.
All these flashbacks and quarelling are just tedious to watch... This has been going on for so many episodes now, can we please get back on track ?

We're gettin' the team back together, goin' to Nationals. Alright!

These were some tense episodes, I didn't know where it'd all lead when it started but oh boy those were some emotional tough guy moments.

This anime is great.

That's what happen to people who can't wait.

Mitsui's story is too long, annoying! So they end it with that? No punishment for outsiders and students who fight and make ruckus?

This made Mitsui as one of my favorite players in the game.

Anazai Sensei, I want to play Basketball!!!

One of the saddest moment in all sports Anime.

Shohoku is definitely going to be more stronger!

It's pretty hilarious to see some here complaining about Mitsui's backstory lol. The main point of it is not for us to show pity in his character whatsoever, but rather it is to show us exactly how sorry of a person he is to just quit his dreams and ambition in basketball but despite of that, there's still a chance of redemption left for him.
Anyways this was one of the best episodes in Slam Dunk imo, very powerful!

People here crying over the pacing and flashbacks thinking that this anime is about the amount of the basketball matches lol. It's all about the characters, comedy and drama and it will continue so till the end. if you don't like it stop watching now. Btw I shed tears in this episode. I don't regret rewatching this masterpiece since 8 years ago

This show would be peak if Hanamichi would stop being racist and saying homophobic slurs. It's getting on my last nerve.

'i'm the main character here' sakuragi is self-aware lmao.
i thought mitsui was just gonna be another minor character pushed to the side but i like the twist he's gotten.

I’m actually glad he joined the team again. However, it might take a while before the other players are comfortable around him.

But don’t let Mitsui see how Sakuragi treats the coach, he might lose it again haha
