Any differences between this and the movie?

Ending is vastly different. Was kinda disappointed that the movie ended right in the middle of something while manga goes more in depth with the characters and the plot. A lot of changes in the overall story too and characters missing.

Theres a sub plot about them creating a movie which was decent. And they give half baked Character development to the rest of the cast that doesn’t really go anywhere which actively goes against one of the manga main themes and just makes its open ending less satisfying imo.

I just finished up reading the collectors edition of the manga last week. What people said here is pretty much true. There is more in the manga but that’s expected since you just can’t fit everything into a movie length.

Basically the epilogue and movie subplot are cut. The effect of that is less development for the side characters.

You learn a lot more about her mother in the manga. It doesn't soften her, but it explains why she's so hard.

The manga has more content, and if I remember correctly, the ending is different.

Honestly the best thing to do is watch the movie and then read the manga. That's what I did. I enjoyed both 10/10

I say that although the movie and manga follow the same story I prefer the manga ending and character development better than the movie. this opinion is coming from someone that watched the movie first than read the original source material a while after. the manga is more of a romance ending with both characters coming to an understanding of each other's feelings and with a bit more developing scenes (like 1 or 2 scenes). and the movie is more him accepting himself and developing himself. not saying the ending of the movie is bad since I understand people that absolutely love and cried at the ending, myself included. but when I finished the movie I wanted more from both of them and not just the guy, and I got that from the manga. but the movie is the best way to view this as it goes through the whole story of the manga (minus a couple events and the ending). so it's a preference of which ending you want the characters to have but I still say watch the movie then read the manga or the last dozen or so chapters of the manga to see the difference in the ending and make your own conclusion.

Manga is much longer and has enough build-up for emotional moments.

Movie skips a lot of manga content and the pace is too fast.
