I've met some people that saw that nge/eoe Shinji is a irredeemable, garbage human so I want to know what you guys think (I'm not suggesting to any scene in particular and plz to be civil and nice in the comments :3)

Shinji is a well-built character, being just a kid. In the anime series, I liked it and in some moments I found myself in his mood. But in EOE he was terribly represented, those horrible scenes with Asuka, Misato and his state of laziness, being greedy and very annoying. Shinji is one of those characters with a critical, degrading mental state, who during the narrative thread had many attempts to escape the stress of his father.

No, Shinji is not irredeemable, he shows remors for his actions and willingness to improve himself despite his hardships, his dad on the other hand...

yep shinji is very much redeemable as he had suffered so much and he prove himself by getting in an Eva again but I kind of think he should have shown a little bit more affection to Asuka

Rei, Kowaru, and the Penguin are the only chill "people" (maybe because none are actual people) in Evangelion.

I think they all suck and are very flawed, but I don't think all of them (only people like Gendo) are completely beyond the capacity for good. So yeah I picked the second option and probably would for the majority of the characters.

Personally, I think he definitely develops more as a character in the rebuilds. By the end of Thrice Apon a Time he actually grows and changes as a person which is pretty cool. Not sure about in the end of evangelion though… he did some crazy stuff

Idk what people told you, but if they think that a 15 year old teenager that shows an ability to feel guilt and remorse is not redeemable then they have bigger problems than this in their lives

This movie really turned Shinji down as a character which was one of the reasons I was unsatisfied with end of Eva. I think the remake did Shinji more justice than this movie ever did.

Do I hate end of Eva? Not really, i think some parts really reached out to me. But most of the time it left me feeling empty and make me also want to turn into a puddle of Fanta.

If you wanted a more satisfying version of end of Eva, I’d say watch the 4 movies that came after.

??? He's just a confused teenager in an all-around awful situation. I wouldn't fault him as a character since I know he can do better (in the manga or other versions). The movie certainly has problems, but they are more with the writing than anything else.

hes a mentally ill 14 year old
in non-apocalyptic circumstances where he wouldve had less pressure on him and couldve gone to counceling and gotten medicated as he grew up he wouldve been fine eventually
but in the world of nge i doubt he wouldve ever gotten better
