As you can see in the full key visual, we have the cruise ship and the train.
The cruise ship serves as the main battlefield for SJ3,
while the train is one of the battlefields for SJ4.

Considering this abundance of information, I assume we will get 24 episodes for season 2. Here is the breakdown:

Season 1 = 12 episodes = Vol. 1 - 3
Season 2 cour 1 = 12 episodes = Vol. 4 - 6 (cruise ship / SJ3)
Season 2 cour 2 = 12 episodes = Vol. 7 - 9 (the train / SJ4)

I refuse to believe they have only 12 episodes allotted for 6 volumes.

Looks like Team S-B is making a comeback with the XM8 in the background.

I also agree with 24 episode analysis. Given the "brand power" SAO as a whole has I can't see them not giving a full two cours.

But then again, I've also seen anime studios cram more into less sooo... overall I am cautiously optimistic.
