I really liked the anime, but I've heard some manga readers complain about the adaptation, saying that it doesn't do justice to the original work. What are the differences between the 2 mediums ?

The original was set in 80s. This adaptation had modern tech. Newspaper that dad reads every morning was replaced with reading the news on an iPad. Shinji used a rope (far as i remember) to stop migi from attacking his arm. In this, earpods. Shinji never wore glasses in the original manga. In this he briefly wears glasses.

There is no actual difference that affects your overall consumption of the story.

Honestly its rare for anime adaption to surpass the mangas but I think like devilman crybaby, the anime of parasyte completely outdone itself as a brilliant anime.

The manga has much better sound design than the anime. Therefore, I recommend reading the manga.

In my opinion, anime should be classified as Shonen whereas manga is Seinen through and through.
Story-wise there are no major differences, but the feeling you get from each is way different.
I’ve watched anime when I was 14yo and I really enjoyed it, can’t say I’d enjoy it the same right now. I’ve read the manga when I was 20 and I really enjoyed it, not confident I’d even finish it if I read it back then.

@Otaku_4511 Ah, I had heard for example that it changed some temporal events or other things like that 😅

In terms of the overall plot, the animation was faithful to the manga. As someone else pointed out, the anime was modernized given that the manga was written some time ago. The soundtrack was also really good; it still stands out to me all these years later.

you should rewatch. I don't think the anime would have any effect depending on your age. Moreover I think you'd enjoy it more now. as you have already read the manga, as a young adult you'll get invested in the story more now than as a teenager then

I read that in the manga the main accent is on ecological problems, in anime not. I haven't read the manga yet, so I can't state it by myself. Still, the adaptation is amazing, I like it so much!!
