I’ve seen the movie and it was alright. A lot of live action anime adaptations are perceived as bad, but this one was pretty good.

I haven't seen the live action for this but there's no way they could have messed it up, considering this is one of the easiest stories to adapt.

Try watching the good ones and you'll get it.

Rurouni Kenshin (all 5 movies) and Death Note (2006) Trilogy are masterpieces. Even someone who does not enjoy watching animations can be very satisfied with them.
