they literally share multiple similarities.

1. romance
2 mech
3. female and male lead( badass female and lame male)
4. fantasy
5. I would say that even the backgrounds of both female leads are "somewhat" similar.

aside from the yuri in Ange, it's not a far stretch to recommend DitF.

Both have giant robots and a strong focus on romance.
And compared to other giant robot anime with a strong focus on romance (Macross, Eureka Seven), these two feel especially close.

I suppose it’s a fair comparison, the main difference is DitF’s ending is terrible while Cross Ange totally nails it.
