Swot- Silly little shounen about a nerd who transforms into an amazing fighter when delinquents interrupt his studying. Terrible art, and fairly cliche and straightforward, but I did enjoy the two main characters.

The main guy is resolute and serious, and the girl and potential love interest is the rare shounen female that is kind, even-tempered, and noble.

5/10

Takidani Koukou Manga Club-

Awful ecchi comedy with little humor. Basically, a guy who wants to join a manga club finds it is now devoted to drawing erotic art, and has one other person in it, a girl.

The ending is particularly bad; I won't give it away,

3/10

Focus-

Talk about the last one-shot you read.

Toriko no Onnanoko (15 Sai)

Impressions
First of all, if you were to replicate Yuu’s actions to most 15-year-old high school girls, you’re liable to face charges of sexual harassment and forever be shunned by “moral”-driven society. But of course, unlike reality, stories like this aren’t bound by legal matters, only by what the author deems right and wrong. Obviously, Maho moving in with an older single man and having a cable fetish is ok.

Well that’s… new? Not the moving in part since that’s common in romance/drama. Maho’s hobby with USB and power cables is certainly unique, and it’s the first time that I’ve seen a suit made out of them. I’ve seen duck tape clothes but making them out of intertwining cables… never.

Short and cute oneshot… but it borders on the realm of pedophilia. Read at your own risk. :)

Oshioki Shaman Musume

Impressions
Not bad for a one-shot, but it's kinda empty and it feels more like a pilot than a one shot. It could be the begining of a good series, but its not. This manga should've been made into a series instead of oneshot, because it had an interesting start.

Kiben Gakuha, Yotsuya Sensei no Kaidan-

A fun, creepy little one-shot about a teacher who tells horrifying ghost stories which end up coming true. He lives to scare people, and the whole thing seemed very Vincent Price-ish. (A good thing)

The art was lazy and mediocre, and distracted a bit from the work, but the concept was novel, and its execution solid. Small wonder they adapted it into a full-fledged series.

Other than Poppoya Love Letter

I recently read

Violet Blossoms 6/10

Was interesting, but I felt like it really could of tried to go deeper into the characters. It left me wondering about what happened in the end, in a bad sort of way.

Giri No Vacance 7/10

Easy to read nice little story of a woman and her mother in law trying to cope with eachother. Was interesting but nothing stellar.

Apple! [9/10] I was surprised this was in my shounen oneshot folder... now looking at how its a shinjou mayu oneshot I can immediately tell why i loved it. Her artwork is always decent, and her stories are very cute. Weird attempt at a shounen though, doesn't really feel like one.

Ashita Hare Nochi Inu Youbi [7/10] Shounen-ai story, pretty decent, nothing too surprising, but I wasn't bored when reading it. had some funny moments.

Ability Shop [8/10] this is weird. 3 decent oneshots in a row? unheard of. Anyway, I liked this one a lot, it was a nice read, but I really was confused/a tad unhappy with the end... :\ Seemed sort of like a cop-out.

Akazukin Eliza [6/10] too much ecchi. but not bad. I liked it, but sometimes it was just so bad cause it seemed to throw in things just so they could get some ecchi moments in :\

Happy Happy Well apparently I already read this one, I knew it was sort of familiar. I originally gave it a 5/10, i feel like if i was rating it now I'd give it a 6. i must be in a good mood today. hahah. It was cute. Average.

Overall a pretty decent oneshot binge.

Drama/Seinen about Manga/Manhua Artists in China, the art is decent and very unique, but the 2 stories seemed a bit forced and wasn't really appealing to me.

I decided to read a few of katsup's;

Ability Shop, 3/10-

The set-up was okay, albeit rather generic. Paying with your life for ablities is a scary and deadly toll, and the girl granting this power, presented as nothing but kind and good throughout, is a truly Satanic monster. Fine, okay.

However, then we get two crazy, unmotivated character changes within about 2 minutes, and one of the worst, silliest, head-shaking endings I have read in a long time.

Apples!- 5/10

Why would a mob boss possibly want his beautiful teenage daughter to enter that lifestyle and be brutally killed as 90% of such people are? Even if he is evil incarnate, he should at least care for his offspring, right?

And wouldn't choosing husband pretty much ensure that she will NOT lead her gang?

The point I'm trying to make is that the writing is sloppy and deus ex machina. (Makes no sense, but fits the scenario the writer had in mind)

All that criticism aside, it did NOT suck. So it had that going for it!

It's a simple story but if you like Natsume Ono's other work you'd most likely like this. Though she uses an even more abstracted art style then normal. It is very similar in style to here title Not Simple.

The last one I read was Blanc Marie: http://myanimelist.net/manga/14799/Blanc_Marie
and I didn't like it all that much, even though I enjoyed it.
It was pretty much the same the mangaka always does, which is conforting, but sometimes boring.

This was a single volume of shoujo-ai one-shots. I really liked some of the stories, some of the others really fall flat though. My favorite was Tiger Lily, which was about remembering the past.

Sket Dance

Impressions
Quite the breath of fresh air in a clichéd magazine such as Shonen Jump. The comedy's great, dramatic scenes are well executed, and it seems to handle the day-to-day stories with verve so far. Similar to Gintama that it doesn't take itself serious at all, endlessly mocking all that you can expect from a shonen manga

8/10

Akuma Bengoshi Kukabara

Impressions
This was enjoyable and an intearesting concept. Of course it was too short for any real development but the art was ok and the main characters seem interesting.

I felt the same thing when I read it. Turns out it ended up becoming an actual series called Defense Devil. I haven't checked it out yet but I have been planning on it! I was waiting for more chapters to come out before starting it, and i'm not sure how far it is at this point :x Just thought i'd point it out ;)

I just read two oneshot mentioned in the comments.

goggle - it was definitely interesting. at some point it got a little too wordy, but it was a good read. 8ish/10

moyashi fuufu - it started out cute, but it seems like the ending was a tad abrupt. the art was a little meh. short but sweet. 6/10

The Ice Wanderer by Jiro Taniguchi, it has been scanlated just recently and it is an excellent short story collection.

While reading, it felt like listenening to old fairytales and legends concerning the nature and animals. Very unique!

editing club relations for the asian drama club, i came across calling you / kids which are both oneshots on my favorite(and least favorite) jmovies.

even though the shoujo ones are actual oneshots when the shounen versions are 2 standalone volume-long manga, the shounen ones were so much better. Even though the lines were almost idential, the shounen version of kimi ni shika kikoenai had me in tears. even Kids/kizu was more enjoyable in the shounen format. :)

I just read a one-shot called Matryoshka (you know the Russian doll thingy ^^). In my opinion, it was definitely a great read. There's just somethings so poetic about it that I don't think I can explain very well... I give a 10/10; really, I think it was that good <3
