Because being your favourite doesn't mean it's the best in any particular aspect.
Your preference has nothing to do with being good in something.
I give you an example. I rated CSM an 8 and rated other shows higher, but CSM had one of the best execution regarding endings.

(I haven't checked the nominees, so I don't know how it was handled.)

Awards chosen by the public are pointless because they end up being a popularity contest.
Awards chosen by a committee are also pointless because they are not as transparent.
Personally I lean more towards the latter type because sometimes the committee is comprised of knowledgable people on a particular field but I'm not very fond of either.

Yes, but it's also true that you only have a vote in the former case.
So instead of just accepting people vote based on their favorites, you can create comments like mine where I point out that it shouldn't be a popularity contest.
