| This seemed a bit rushed. Did Otonashi's sudden romantic hug just defuse Naoi entirely? Never seen anyone fall in love so quick. Or is this just baiting you with that implication, only to reveal he's still very much angling towards his original goal? He didn't even get to do anything of substance other than maim the SSS members, who quite frankly had it coming to them. Angel Beats still has pacing issues. If this really did end Naoi's one episode long "arc", then I question why it wasn't stretched out over at least two or three episodes, or integrated into the earlier episodes instead of the filler. He takes over, wins some sort of militarised gang war, tells his backstory, and Otonashi solves it within a single episode. There's no time to contemplate anything or immerse yourself in the plot because of the turbo pace. I do like this anime and this episode, but I wish it allotted itself more time to deliver a captivating narrative. It's got all the ingredients necessary, it just needs to give them time to simmer. It could be even better, you know? |
