| Overall, it fails both at being a comedy, romance, or being a realistic look at otaku. The plot and conflict in this anime is incredibly cringe as well (not even ironic cringe — they really play it straight.) The main character is insufferable and it was a pain to watch as she literally did nothing for 12 episodes. Just watch genshiken or lucky star for your otaku fill. |

It's not even trying to be "realistic" or about "otaku". It's about the experiences of social awkwardness that I think most people have dealt with at some point in their lives. Maybe not everyone can relate. but for me a lot of this stuff hits pretty close to home especially in my middle school years. |

Manga-spoilers: Nevertheless, I love WataMote and recommend it. I don't know which scene you saw on social media, but if the scene was a cringefest, you probably know what you're getting into. |
