| Yeah you can do it 2 different ways, but either way you have to read the manga in its entirety. So both options you stated are okay, as long as you 1) start reading the manga from the beginning after you watched the 1997 anime first, or 2) read the manga up to V14 Chapter 94 "One Who Hunts Dragons", start the 1997 anime, and then continue the manga. For the Eclipse though, I found the 3rd movie from 2013 not bad, so when you're done with the 1997 anime and the manga, why not try that one too. (Also lol did you really not read or watch anything seinen before you became 18?) |

| Yo, I’m sure I’m late af, but here is my take: Berserk 1997 was made for people to eventually read the manga. You could just start off with the manga, but then you’re missing out on how the anime lays itself out (you’ll figure that out when checking out the anime and the manga separately). The soundtrack alone is reason enough to watch it. It’s music will suck you into its world and characters and have you fall in love with its story throughout. The music will echo in your head as your read the manga too and it’s all the better for it. This 90’s anime is beautiful. It’s not the cleanest animation wise and the art itself, although still stunning and captures the world in its own unique style (like that of an old renaissance painting), doesn’t quite capture the visceral, gutting edge of the manga’s panels. But with that said, I fully recommend this anime. If you’re looking to get into Berserk and enjoy or simply prefer to watch anime more often than reading manga (maybe it’s a convenience thing?), this anime is a great gateway into it. Once you’ve watched the anime THEN read the manga and start from the very first chapter and never skip any, even when reading over what was already covered in the anime. |

| i wathed the 97 anime first and i loved it ! currently reading the manga (not far thnx to the shortages since 2021) havent seen the 2016 version, but i don't exactly hear nice things about it |
