| Agreed about samey main character designs that have become ubiqutous for the past 15 years. Seems like unless the anime is an adaptation of a preexisting manga, it's going to have the same cookie cutter MC design. As for the mopey personalities, I believe that is more reflective of the society that spawns these characters. Generations of absentee fathers leaving their children to be raised by prisons public schools and video games, families shrinking due to absurdly high costs of living, and the arise of globalized trade and the internet killing local communities, has led to many people feeling isolated and alone and insecure. My guess is that the confident and very social heroes of eld seem alien to the people of this age. |
