Not that it really bothers me, but I always felt that Samurai Champloo was an anime that's targeted towards older people, it really feels like a seinen show. This is confusing. Also I get the feeling that there's already a thread similar to this one.

You're right, it does say "original"... But when you click on "adaptation" it links to a manga page and the date of publication is several months prior to the anime debut.

Yes, because frequently original anime will have manga adaptations to advertise the anime, and because making manga is so much quicker and easier than making anime, the manga will often begin publishing before the anime airs. Evangelion did the same thing.

Because it’s for babies. J/k, I think most Japanese editors stopped caring about the demographic tags a long time ago

Whoever authored MAL's page for this anime probably wasn't aware of this and made a mistake based on assumptions. Maybe someone should let the admins know.

What do you mean? There’s nothing wrong with the page. Just because the manga happened to release first doesn’t mean it isn’t an original anime.

I meant what I said. The shounen tag on this anime appears to be a mistake so somebody should fix it. Not that I care.

That doesn't explain tagging it as something it isn't.

Why is it tagged as historical? None of that shit that happens in the show happened in real life.

Historical doesn’t mean real history. Just events happening in a past era.

I mean it is a shoujo, Akimi Yoshida is a shoujo manga artist and it was also published in Bessatsu Shoujo Comic so like...

Exactly.
Also, people who think Banana Fish isn’t “shoujo” haven’t read much shoujo, especially from the 80s-90s. Some of that shit gets dark as hell (hell, most of Junji Ito’s stuff was serialized in shoujo pubs). It’s not all Sailor Moons and Boys Over Flowers.

Because there is an adventure and... swords... ๐Ÿ˜
One have to keep in mind that the categorization of seinen/jousei, shounen/shoujo serves marketing purposes and not literacy, i.e they are used to target a particular category of consumers.
Hence, it is, from my perspective, obviously meaningful since this anime can be meant towards teens, like any shounen with swords...
