I haven't watched Squid Game yet, but it seems like a pretty blatant ripoff of Kamisama no Iutoori and maybe Kaiji.

Lol no it is inspired not ripoff. It's like saying JJK is Naruto ripoff which is definitely not the case.

It's not a ripoff but it's almost definitely inspired by this series. I just finished it today and couldn't help but notice the similarities between the two lol. Overall two awesome pieces of media

I don't think Squid Game got inspired by this manga because there is a lot of death games shows, movies, and manga at that.

yeah, every single survival/battle royale series is just a rip-off now.
Shouldn't all isekai be rip-offs with that logic?

Deadass. Squid game was written in the 2000s but got accepted around June 2020

Every battle shounen in existence too. Finally someone with a brain.

Just finished reading this manga cause I liked Squid Game and now I wholly regret it. There's a possibility Squid Game might have been inspired by it, yes, but literally the only thing that's the same is the death game synopsis (which isn't unique at all) and two of the same games being played
. Otherwise the characters, the set-up of the games, backstories, the messages/themes, etc. are entirely different. A lot of the characters here are batshit crazy people with no sense of morality/sympathy (they're high school students? really?), there's more focus on the games than any of the characters themselves (except maybe the MC), there's a shitty otaku subplot and supernatural elements, etc. Now I haven't read the sequel and I never will, so maybe that one's more similar to Squid Game, but judging from what I've heard, I highly doubt it.

I haven't watched either of them but I have seen alot of people jumping on this bandwagon of a gotcha moment towards this show and that anime for whatever reason.

Inspiration is being genuinely motivated to tell a similar tale or use it to improve your own work. A rip-off is taking stuff from the work without realizing what made the work so great. So idk ask the creators of the show if they were inspired or not. Who cares in the end. Nothing is entirely original anymore.
My taste is trash. So is yours.

Thanks for saying this. with this type of discussion I feel people fail to understand what qualifies as a rip off or not. Plus it's not very fair to harshly assume what the creator may of been thinking while creating their work

The concept of death games is nothing new and has been made a lot of times in anime and manga. Squid Game is just the first major death game work popular in west since Hunter Games.
You all need to watch Nami.

It's crazy that people are commenting without actually knowing the source material I'm referring to. Because if they did, you'd know that I wasn't referring to generic death games, but literally the exact same games.

I'm gonna be real with you, I haven't seen Squid Game and I don't desire to.
