How was Kuroko unknown during his time in middle school

I’ve only started the series (I’m currently at episode 8) but so far he’s been sharing the spotlight for all their games and all their opponents have noticed him so how did he stay unknown and the “phantom sixth prodigy” when he was in middle school?

NO FRL!! i’ve seen all of kuroko no basket and i get that he was unnoticed in middle school but the GOM was so famous ppl have had to heard of the phantom sixth man i mean that’s what he was known as…
