I understand that the anime skips a lot of singularities (1, 6, 7, 8 only having anime adaptations). Can I still follow the series without the other singularities? Are the dependent on each other?

You should totally play the games though. Towards the end the difficulty spikes massively and the story is just *Muah* for a mobile game. Heck, play it on bluestacks if you want. Its a computer emulator that lets you play mobile games on computer.
