I'm playing 428: Shibuya Scramble right now, and so far it's really interesting. Since it's a prequel to Canaan, it does maintain continuity. Now, I just have to ask "Do you need to have played 428: Shibuya Scramble before watching Canaan?" because I've heard people say "The story just really banks heavily on you knowing the visual novel."

After watching otaku dei kun,I believe he said that it was made as a possible what if path, as type moon just funded anime on the based of a scenario that nasu wanted to try out. So I would say no, but I'm guessing you get a lot of background information like how fate zero gives you a better understanding on fate stay night etc

I didn't know the game existed until after I'd watched the show. The characters did sometimes mention a few events that happened prior to the show, but I still understood the anime's story just fine.

Well, after a hundred hours of gameplay, getting all the trophies, watching every playable character's plot line unfold, I can definitively say no. Both 428 and Canaan are written strong enough to stand on their own. As a sequel, the anime really does maintain consistency with the events of the visual novel as well as its Canaan bonus. As to why Maria has black hair in the game but is a blonde in the anime, that may be a case of "artistic license."

I made this poll because after I watched Canaan, I rewatched a review from ShadowBlazer3000:
To put it simply, it didn't age well. His arguments were dismissively biased and it was clear he did not read the visual novel let alone watch a playthrough.

Also WTF it took you 100 hours. It took me like 40 for a plat and the only parts I used a guide for were the side stories, mean-clean, and conspiracy stuff.

I like to take my time in absorbing the information, and I tend to leave the game on while having dinner.
