Cell Phone - Plot Hole?

If the story took place like 40 years ago due to the guys age, why did he have a cell-phone? The girl even comments that it is an "antique". I liked the episode and all, but was thinking about this the whole time. Did I miss something?

@Takano28 Maybe when the man showed his cell phone to the girl they're already more than 25 years old, bcoz they already decided to get married and he tried many times but failed..

So if the girl's father 70-80 something, then they should be 50 something..which mean that would be only 25 years in the past..(1995-2000) and those years Mokia was indeed popular 😅😅

But you're right, she shouldn't said that it was an antique..😅😅

I think she's talking about the text and not the phone itself. I don't know the original language so I don't know how accurate the translations are but the subject of the sentence after it was the text message on the phone and the 'it' in that sentence was referring to the 'antique' mentioned. Although, even if it were accurate, that doenst mean it's literal.

I think its more along the lines of "Why are you holding on to that old message? Delete it now." But this is just based off the translation so possibly not accurate.

Yeah it could just be that, or as Noavi pointed it some translations errors, I just thought they looked to be quite old in the ending scenes are fairly young in the first parts. Meaning that it would place it to be way older than cell phones.

Part of me has wondered if this is why this episode is a special, as it is treated and referenced as part of the show's canon. Though I know that's almost certainly not the reason haha.

Is it given somewhere that the story is taking place in 2021 or something? Coz if not then maybe the story takes place around 2050 or something. That will explain them having the phone 40-50 years ago.....

That's impossible due to the earthquake story that takes place in 2008, where Xiaoshi Cheng looked and acted like he was around 8 years old in the quick flashback in episode 4. In the present, he is 21 according to his character page (and I was already guessing he was between 20 and 25 from his looks and mentality). That means that the story takes place in present time (~2021).

I think it takes place before episode 3, but either it wasn't completed in time or it was moved because it slowed the pacing of the show too much (and placed after a pretty intense episode).

I think it’s probably a pager. They were popular in Japan in the 1980s so ~40 years ago
