This episode made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside especially when the little girl smiled. :)

Nice how they showed us what Tenma has been doing for the past 5 months.

That was sad how the girl's mother was killed. :(

Looks like Tenma has become a full blown badass now. Can't wait to see where this anime goes next.

8/10 wouldn't call it a masterpiece like everyone else has been saying but it was pretty good.

Interesting development of Tenma. Glad things turned better for the girl even though I can believe how is the feeling to live with your mother's killer!

I loved the piece at the end. Beautiful, just like watching the girl begin to laugh and warm up to Tenma's instructor. Good episode.

I've rewatched this episode 4 times now. It's such an awesome little side story. I always use this one as an example when people say Monster had too many sub-plots. They aren't filler at all in my opinion. Naoki Urasawa wanted to explore human nature as much as possible, and he did it beautifully with these sub-plots. They're also never too long, and always relate back to the main plot in some way. Just my thoughts ^_^

HAHA! Tenma was doing wrist curls :P

Also seems like the soldier remembered that Tenma was the reason that the little girl started smiling again and that's why he withheld the information as to where he went.

Love this episode of Monster. The war vet's story of how he killed the girl's mother is saddening but something changed between them when Tenma showed up. Yeah, Tenma's got skills with his hands. The next episode should be really badass with him using the gun... oh and yeah love the whole chopstick scene. I should also mention the music this episode was really emotional.

what a touching episode.

i have a feeling even after all this training, Tenma isn't going to be able to shoot an actual person. it's just part of his nature, or at least he will hesitate when he does

He learned how to shoot a gun.
I'm glad to see that the girl forgave him for killing her mother, I wonder if she will ever speak again.

I don't think that mercenary has ever heard of self-defensive gun ownership. Since when do you have to be prepared to kill someone? Dr. Tennma didn't go to any ordinary firearm self-defense class. He went to a hitman class.

This episode was refreshing, and heartwarming. Also Tenma's resolve was great. I mean even for an ordinary human the decision to learn how to use a gun, how to kill basically would be a hard a decicison, but for a doctor, who swore to save lifes? Great contradiction.

I was happy when tbe girl finally learned how to smile just because of Tenma. Our main character also learned how to use a gun. I love this show.

Well, this was mainly a filler episode no doubt. No Johan Liebert. However, we see Tenma-san transform to a badass with a gun.

Good messages there about handling a gun. Nothing more.

Let's hope the next episode will be better.

Without change,we end up becoming the very person we hate.

Well, the soldier, I assume, made it clear for the detective that Tenma hadn't used a gun before. I bet that will be soon forgotten.

Anyway, this episode kinda felt like a filler but at the same time didn't. Either way, I liked it. I'm worried about the girl's future, however: she might be taken away from the soldier.

I loved the episode. ^^ I support the slow pacing, too. It allows me to grasp what the environment is like for these characters. By doing this, any contrasts to what the upcoming episodes are like can be immense (well, I hope so).

Well, even this show had a heartwarming episode.

No doubt that girl can use chopsticks fluently, she looks like chinese or japanese anyway.

I thought that Lunge will shoot that soldier at the back at the end, seems Lunge is not the sly type.

Man, this show is absolutely incredible. I feel everything right in my heart. It's very rare for me to feel a personal level of attachment this strong to a story after only 9 episodes.

Tenma is the type of man I wish to become. I'm only a college student now, but someday I hope to have the kindness, courage, and selflessness in me that this man does. I hope he never loses his sense of morality and justice. If he goes down the wrong path, it's gonna hurt a lot watching that....

Alrighty, so Dr. Tenma getting a gun wasn't just some whimsical decision. Five months ago, he got some training from Hugo Bernhardt. A former French soldier and marksman.

So the kid Hugo adopted from Myanmar is the daughter of a woman he killed. Sheesh, that's some heavy stuff. He said she never smiled and thought she would hate him for the rest of his (or her) life, but the ending of the questioning was heartwarming.

Turns out she can smile and laugh and at the very least sees him as a parental figure. Meanwhile, Dr. Tenma is still crusin'. Hmm, I'm tempted to binge-watch this series, since I've been putting it off for so long

What a beautiful episode, every minute of it actually felt like it wasn't wasted on anything unimportant . Great to see Tenma managing to give back his appreciation for help with more than money . The girls and her caretaker happiness at the end is what made this episode so good.
