O_OSeeKing said:here u go, check it by yourself, it said that the number 4,4m is estimated in 2008 which is unbelievable.

And yeah, i think the number 20500 is the one but it included hentai too so there's no way to count the exact number of anime unless you subtract all the hentai -_-
The number 60k is kinda wrong as you mentioned, yes, i did notice that when i search for 2,3 which ended up '404'
That 4.4 million number specifically said "entries", so I would assume they mean every web page associated with an anime, which would include individual episode pages as well as character pages, etc.
You can't really go off of the 60k number either, as that is simply an auto-incremented number in their database, which means if an anime was removed for any reason (most likely accidental duplicate or was created wrong and decided to recreate instead of edit), the number would not go back down to reflect that change.
Another way to calculate this is to add up anime from the studios/producers, but you will run into duplicates since many anime are co-produced by multiple studios. Someone on Quora mentioned adding up the numbers from this list and they somehow got 29117 from 4 years ago (I added them up and got 12137), but that list only has 637 companies listed while this list has 2046 companies listed. Like I said though, most anime have multiple companies working on them, so this is not a good way to find the true total. Some anime have 5+ companies listed.
The current number in the top anime list is 21038, which is probably a good estimate, or starting point. It is obviously missing a lot of anime, but it is also bloated with hentai and multiple entries for the same anime since many anime are broken down into seasons, or parts. For instance, #5 of the top anime is Attack on Titan Season 3 Part 2. Movies, OVA, ONA, etc. also bloat this number. For instance, One Piece has over 50 of them, each giving credit toward the total number of anime. This number is basically the upper threshold of the total number of anime.
We can remove the movies, OVA, ONA, etc. bloat by searching specifically the top TV anime. This list has 6106 listings. This still includes seasons/parts of the same anime, but that extra bloat may make up the difference for missing anime titles. Searching this way now removes anime that were only OVA, ONA, or movies, so this is basically the lower threshold of the total number of anime.
To summarize, there are somewhere between 6106 and 21038 anime. I would estimate it is near the median of the those numbers, so about 13572 anime are currently in existence. |
