Akira is a great movie and just like blade runner it looks beautiful. Nonetheless I think that Blade Runner has a more complex story, since it criticizes human morality (even though akira does this too) and overall has some more mystery too it.

You know what's funny about that? Apparently, what I learned from the trash taste podcast is that the movie only adapted a 3rd or 4th of the manga, and the movie had an original ending so its incomplete and would've been much better as an actual anime probably. I would check out Akudama Drive for a modern cyberpunk anime. Overall I feel like many 90's and 80's anime are very overrated because of people having nostalgia and not being able to continue to see things objectively. Check out my list if you want show reccs.

Mate I'm not trying to bash the film" But it's sad howEven Hamtaro the second movie where the Princess completely forgets about marrying Hamtaro when her fiancé is revealed to still be alive and Hamtaro is heartbroken about it
That movie was better then Akira

I think Ghost In The Shell is more like Blade Runner when it comes to ideas and story. Akira is like what would happen if David Cronenberg directed Blade Runner.

If we want to be absolutely pedantic, the Blade Runner anime is the Blade Runner of anime.

But as said above, Ghost in the Shell is thematically much more akin to Blade Runner.

Well I for one already loved Lain.
