In the middle of re-watching this series and dam it is as good as I remember, practically the only Fate series that has a serious setting without easily discernible black and white characters.
Any recommendations for other anime or fate series that are similar to Zero, honestly the one's with high school children fighting compared to this are just cringe inducing...

First if you haven't seen all of Urobuchi's works you should watch them (madoka magica, psycho pass s1, saya no uta visual novel).
If you like how F/Z presents morality, check out Shiki. It is horror anime but has very similar approach to morals and similar main character.
If you like the ending of fate zero and the idea of "greek tragedy" check out (Giant Robo the Animation: The Day the Earth Stood Still). It is different from F/Z but has similar tragic element and focuses on the characters heavily. very dramatic despite cartoony designs.
