Despite Akari's general premise (being the main protagonist of Yuru Yuri but probably one of the characters with the least screen time) seems counter intuitive to a protagonist but i honestly think it works in her favor. Because of Akari's lack of presence and the fact that she is the main character, at least in my case, I often find myself thinking about her the most while i'm watching the anime even if the episode I am watching has literally nothing to do with Akari. Hopping that one day she will get to shine (and she does in one episode in particular). Does anyone agree with me? and if not please tell me why I'm interested to hear your opinion.

It is a good joke, but that doesn't necessarily mean directly that she's an effective main character. She's just one member of the main cast that has a 'not-the-main-character main character' gimmick that works well. At least much better than in S3 where she's pretty bland and boring.
