| Hmmmmhmmmmmm thats a sweet opening. In terms of both visuals and ost. She was extremely thorough when checking out Reg and his features. This episode was also pretty heavy in the feels with Riko's backstory being revealed pretty early on with plenty of information regarding her and her Mom. And it's only episode 2. I look forward to the next episode. Aside from that, I'm really wondering about what sorts of methods are used for punishing here. Being strung up nude is pretty bad already, but this orphanage has an execution room. Thats pretty freakin dark. |

| Another great episode. I'm in love with the background art and awed by the world structure tbh. But the scene of kids casually crossing the river at that height gave me shivers. How can they lead a safe life while living in a world like that is mystery to me ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Lyza sounds like a legend. I'd love to see her in flesh, if by any chance we get to know more of her in person. OP/ED were nice. OP had beautiful visuals. |

While I can understand that it's important to show how f-ed up their world is while portraying it as totally normal for them, and I can see it's necessary to illustrate that Reg has relatively normal human anatomy despite his mechanical enhancements, those scenes in question were entirely unnecessary since both her being strung up naked as punishment and his genitalia were already addressed in the first episode through dialogue. If anything, these scenes were simply animated to satisfy the fetishy manga-readers. |

| Great episode! It tackles a lot of information which can normally be overwhelming but they did a good job of pacing out the info dumping with character development. Lyza sounds like she is one hell of a badass! Lyza left a cryptic message for her daughter and a goal for her to reach her mother...next episode is titled "departure" so it seems the adventure will begin as they travel through the Abyss! I can't wait!!! |

| So, we got more info about the abyss. Poor Reg... xD I feel bad for him haha So Riko's mother is a legendary explorer who disappeared but i doubt that she is dead, especially with that message. But i am still very curious about who Reg is and what was he doing there... I have a great feeling that Riko is immune to the Abyss disease. |

In this show? Goodness gracious, no. There are scenes in the manga that cross the boundary of world-building and goes straight into soft hentai. I'm all for a faithful adaptation but even I don't want those animated. That said, a sarashi would be a good compromise. |

Nope In the manga, out of 42 chapter there are like 3 scenes in which there's shouta nudity. No torture porn vibes, nor soft hentai. Just shouta nudity, that's all. It feels natural and it doesn't bother almost anyone, so relax. I mean, I've never seen a manga reader complaining about it in the discussions |
| They have a really great way of roping someone in. Great visuals, cute use of fantasy, but also a sense of impending disaster. I get a bit of a Flip Flappers vibe from this, but there's also a consistency that I'm looking forward to. We aren't exploring multiple worlds, but just one big, unknown world. The characters aren't too bad so far as well. I'm just a little worried about the even more lewd scenes that might be coming that folks are talking about; I did want to recommend this to people/my mom if it was good enough. If it's too much then I guess I'll just keep it to myself then.;; No biggie I guess. I feel like they're probably going to downplay those scenes though. So let's talk about this plot though. No spoilers, but do we think maybe Reg was sent from the bottom of he Abyss by Lyza? How do we feel about parents essentially encouraging their kids to follow in their paths despite the extreme risks? Also do they have anything to fight off creatures with down there? I mean, if they have robot boys then you'd think some civilization would have made something that could do some damage. At the same time, carrying weapons down might be too difficult if they're too heavy. I have so many questions in addition to what I've asked here that I'm interested in watching more to figure out! |

The first three volumes are more or less perfect (and the final chapter of vol.03 is among the best ever created) so finishing there would be the best choice. Well, maybe they could venture into the beginning of volume four but there's no way the anime adaptation can cram all the five volumes of the first two arcs into 13 episodes. IMHO the first half of volume four is rushed and the next volume and a half are too drawn-out. I was kinda relieved when the second arc was finally over. |

I acknowledge that you said you're not here to troll, but that's still a lot of implications you're making. It's a traditional punishment in their world, which frankly adds more flavor to their world, as it demonstrates an example of how it's disconnected with our society. Other works of fiction like A Song of Fire and Ice (book) had children being raped and slaughtered too, not because it's "cool" like you suggest mind you, but because it's a serious story of fiction, not reality, and adds to the immersion. If you're going to drop a great show because you let literally two seconds of an episode ruin it for you, then just do it. |

| Holy crap, I had no expectations going into this show and knew nothing about the source material. Very impressed, the first show I've seen this season with some actual artistic merit (sorry, it's bringing out my inner elitist a bit lol). Great visuals and a mystery I'm actually interested in. I really want to learn about Riko's mom, and the kinds of things she may have discovered. And, since I saw plenty of people discussing it here, personally I thought the stringing up of Riko was funny fan service. No need to be so uptight about it, MAL, I know you've all seen worse xD I think if these "kids" are going into a deep pit and risking their lives to find valuables, then it's not so unreasonable to see stuff like that. Riko's not a defenseless little girl, otherwise I'd agree the scene would be in poor taste. As it stands though... no shame ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)  |

| I'm kinda surprised to see people so uptight about that scene, if you can call it that. I mean, it's fine that some people find it uncomfortable, but all those acting so self righteous annoy me. Let's say it was purely sexual in purpose, so what? If you think that sexuality necessarily detracts from the actual value of a work of art, and not your personal enjoyment of it, then you're just pathetic. That said, I dislike the use of exposition in this series. We're at the beginning, so it might be expected from a story of this apparent nature, but if it continues to reveal the world to us in this way then I think it'll be a waste of potential. |
