I'm currently working my way through the light novels, and I've come across a little problem. I wouldn't be too concerned if it had only happened once, but I've noticed it again, and I'm a little confused.

Volumes three and four (Fairy Dance) had an issue with chapters; vol. 3 ended after chapter 3, and vol. 4 started with chapter 5. This worried me, but a quick internet search shed light on the issue, and I calmed down a little. Now, however, I have just finished volume five (the beginning of Phantom Bullet), and I seem to have come across this issue again.

The final chapter in volume 5 was number 7.
The first chapter in volume 6 is number 7, too.

Is this an issue with every arc after Aincrad? I assume not, but it is a little worrying.

Anyway, I suppose my question is, with which chapter is volume 6 supposed to start? I want to be able to update my progress accurately, but I can't do that if the books have been misprinted (and Wikipedia doesn't list the number of chapters for this arc!).

Thanks in advance.

Volume 5 ends with chapter 7 and the 6th volume starts with "Prologue" which is a different chapter. So when you finish the 5th volume you can add +1 at chapters too.
The fact that in printed english 6th volume its says chapter 7 is an mistake made by Yen Press US
In the fan translation of the light novel vol 6 starts exactly as in the japanese edition, with "Prologue".

Okay. A prologue at the beginning of book 6 makes sense.
I guess this means that there are 16 chapters overall in the Phantom Bullet arc (book 5 is chapters 1-7; book 6 is chapters 8-16).

Thanks so much for your reply! Much appreciated :D

You're welcome. Keep reading the light novel. The story it's even better after vol 8. It will be a little hard to count the chapters ...The chapters will be then divided in many parts...be careful not to count wrong :D

.............................
Edit:
i think you should count the "Prologue" as a chapter. If you look at vol 9 you will see "Prologue I", "Prologue II" , "Interlude I", and only after it starts "Chapter I", at page 175 ..... so it will be a little strange to count only 1 chapter..

Ooh, good point... I may have to go back and look at the previous books to see if there are any more prologues (and epilogues) that need to be counted. I think I'll stick with just counting chapters for now, but you're right; one chapter for one book would be a little strange :P

Thanks again!
