In our constant banteringunfaltering efforts to provide more accurate and clear definitions, this thread is for our definition workgroup on EGs, and well I think you all noticed there hadn't been an official definition for EG as of yet, that's what we are here for.

Last time I did this I wanted to ask around and discuss some common beliefs we all shared on the subject of Kuudere, but that was that, I think we know a lot about the Kuudere so moving onto the subject of emotionless.
What we know about the Emotionless:
-1 of the 4 major groups that comprise the entire database.
-The largest of them if only by a small difference (41-36%), followed by kuuderes themselves (38-35%)
-Most people still refer to EGs as kuuderes and they are lumped together, but we need to tell them apart, because of the club name.
So one of the things we need to clear up is, and I say we because I can't do this arbitrarily, to decide, whether EGs are a separate group of their own, or we should deal with the emotionless concept as a trait.
First of all, I think we all agree that:
1. EGs are EGs because their emotions won't show, so whether they have them or not, whether they lost them or had them sealed away, got their amygdalas chemically excised and whathaveyou.
All these things are always irrelevant to the definition. (for subtypes, yes, but not to our definition).
2. EGs invariably can and actually will be cool.
The reason for this is that EGs, just for being EGs, always score in two of the main criteria for Kuudere, those being 1 and 4, so that's almost a given for each and every EG that there is, any additional score is a plus, but almost always there, what's for certain is that they pretty much have "Kuudere traits" by default.
Which means they "could" be both, Kuudere and EGs at the same time, but a Kuudere can be only a Kuudere and doesn't needs to be an EG, because actually, not all Kuuderes are EGs.
this is probably hard to understand without a visual aid, but it'd be something like this:
[BROKEN_LINK]
Fact: Being an EG grants a natural advantage on the Kuudere scale.
3. EGs are accepted just because of the emotionless trait, disregarding everything else.
Because it's on the club title, and also on the club description, I think it's the best and probably the only reason why they would need to be a separate group.
What I think:
Keep EGs as a major group, but not immiscible, so that they can possess Cool or Dan traits, but still remain EGs, because the EG group would supercede the others, which means that even if they have cool or dan traits they wouldn't be counted as one of either group, because they would go in the EG group.
That way, the EGs are still eligible by default, but it leaves other girls like Lelei or Merry (recent borderline case) alone, so that they can be grouped elsewhere and we can say that they are at least EG-like because they have EG traits PLUS other cool or dan traits that help their cause and then can be entered as cool or dan.
Facts are based on statistically significant data from what we have collected thus far with the help of anidb and animecharactersdatabase.
Inside the spoiler there's some data for the proposed subtypes (Work in progress):
The assumption is, that if a girl is an EG, she will match one or more of the subtypes, so here's what we would be looking for:
Estimated EG pop size = 187 (based on current KDEGs universe)
A= (13.77%)
B= (15.94%)
C= (28.26%)
D= (42.02%)
Subtype A (Fact Sheet)
- They tend to display adherence to authority, suited for the role of subordinates and protégées.
- Carries out actions without personal resolve, convictions, or goals.
- Can overlap with C and D
Other observations: (no statistical significance)
They can be one of the following:
- Lazy or lethargic
- Younger than her peers (rest of the cast)
- Protected or mentored by a superior.
- Unassuming and childish.
Subtype B (Fact Sheet)
- The current state is conditioned by a previous experience. (sine qua non)
the "conditioning factor" can manifest in different ways (see B-C Emotionless State)
- Harbors deeply rooted sentiments with negative connotations, but is either unable to show her feelings (somatoform mutism) or refuses to (psychological defense) [DANDERE flags].
- Cannot overlap with other subtypes until the conditioning ends (transition and development) only D would be possible if still an EG after the whole ordeal, even.
- When such conditioning is terminated, the previous state will be restored, character might evolve, or disappear.
Keep in mind:
- The past experience can be either reversible or irreversible.
Other observations: (no statistical significance)
They can be one of the following:
- Looking for revenge or have unresolved matters.
- Very emotional when a condition is met (trigger).
- Uninterested in anything or anyone unrelated to their personal matters.
Subtype C (Fact Sheet)
- They tend to display adherence to authority, even more so than A, but unlike A she is capable of assuming the role of authority herself.
- Can overlap with A or D, but never B unless she is human. (rare exceptions: B-C Emotionless State)
- Behaviour is invariably directed towards a predetermined goal, extremely persistent.
- Often not human, even when physically gynomorphic. (Robot-girl role)
Other observations: (no statistical significance)
They can be one of the following:
- Designated to perform certain tasks or fulfill a role.
- Not very knowledgeable in anything not related to her function.
- Utilitarian and pragmatic, can disregard common sense to favour functionality or to follow orders. (robot-like)
Subtype D (Fact Sheet)
- There is a marked tendency for these characters to appear in comedy, and/or surrounded by a cast of cuckoolanders.
- They never smile.
Other observations: (no statistical significance)
They can be one of the following:
- Cranky or bad tempered, without being excessively violent.
- Very formal and polite.
- Weird and unusually extravagant.
- Most of them display above average intelligence or at least never below the expected by their peers. (they are proficient in one specific task, so they are given the professional or authority role)
The B-C Emotionless State:
A pattern observed in certain characters, where a foreign disruptive force causes a temporary or permanent cessation of all psychic functions, inducing an "emotionless state", in these cases the usual motive behind the disruptive force is to exert control over the target's actions and/or thoughts, the resulting behaviour will be robotic, so it's very similar to a C emotionless, but the primary cause that causes such behaviour to manifest will be defined as the "conditioning" described on the B subtype.
There are currently no accepted criteria to define to what extent a B-C Emotionless State is acceptable for admission, but a number of characters exhibiting this pattern are listed:
Silky (5638)
Natsume (17112)
Miharu (9919)
Reasons why Subtype D is more prevalent in KDEGL (probably):
- Easier to spot within the cast (Tends to exert asymmetric dominance)
- Relatively minor roles and less appearances
- Less likely to smile than the other subtypes
- Often overlaps with other subtypes (C, and A) and specific kuudere traits (better chances of inclusion from either side).
- Voice is more monotone than fragile.
The entire process of sampling and operationalization of this particular group took literally years to complete and tipify within the system, not saying the results are perfect, but we are as close as we can possibly get.
