First things first, I'm sorry for any mistakes in the text, I'm not a native speaker.

Just finished watching this anime film. Yes, I know I'm several years late, sorry, I started watching anime just a few months ago. Altough I found the anime very appealing, after wathching the 3rd part, there is a lot of stuff I would like answers for. I tried to look up the "real meaning" of the anime plot on some forums, but all they were talking about was the ending where he saw the female protagonist (i will adress them as FP and MP from now on), but after the train passed by, she was no longer there. I understood that it meant that he, after many years, finally moved on, leaving old memories behind. But there are still many things I couldn't find answers for.

In the one of the last scenes, there was FP protagonist, getting on the train, leaving her parents, and going away, after which they showed her hand, which had wedding ring. Does that mean she moved on too, leaving her old love just as a memory?

And second one, where MP got phone call from FP, who was in the work and he didn't answer it. What was that supposed to mean? Could that mean that alltough she was trying to stay in touch he just didn't want to?

I'm just really confused about lots of things. So, if someone remeber the "real story" behind the artistic layer, can you plase explain to me what were those scenes supposed to mean?

They become sex friend and keep meeting each other every now and then, they didn't want to talk with each other in public or phone because they don't want to get caught by anyone.

The meaning is that Makoto Shinkai is a hack writer that wouldn't know what a proper conclusion was if it slapped him upside the head let alone how to write one.
