| Well, both the 1997 and the 3 movies cover the same arc, Golden Age, which is the prologue of Berserk. My recommendation is to watch the 97 anime and then skip the first 2 movies and watch the 3rd movie, reason being that the movie expands a bit on the ending of the anime and gives it a proper ending. After that you can watch the 2016 anime, however, yes... it's very mediocre... Of course, if you want the complete story and experience of Berserk the manga is the way to go since every adaptation either leaves alot of things off, changes some things, and censors alot. Even if you are not that big on reading manga, if you like the animes then give it a shot, it's a fantastic read. Hope that helps. |

| The 1997 tv show is 25 episodes and the movies are nearly three hours combined to fit a 12 volume arc. The 2016 anime is 12 episodes to fit a 7 volume arc. Yes, the two anime are 19 years apart. So either start with the manga. Volume 1, page 1. Or if you don't want to read it, watch the 97 anime, the 2012 movies and the 2016 anime(the only importantce of the ordering is watching the 16' anime after the other two since it continues from that point). The manga is on Volume 38, the first chapter was released nearly 26 years ago, if you decide to read it..don't binge. |

| Reading the manga is seriously recommended no if's and's or but's about it. As for show watching, do yourself a favor and get Berserk Redux and watch that if you do not want to get frustrated at what to watch. |

| Watch the 97 anime and read the manga, don't bother with the movies or the new anime. The anime should give you enough motivation to read the manga, if you absolutely won't read the manga, don't even start |
