The road through Konoha - The Flowing Steel of the Sand, Part 2.

Open for: Leaf-ninja, invitees, and mounted/fast Cloud-ninja.

Setting: Lucas, a young Cloud Genin, and Cisco, an older ninja who failed his first exam, have just left Kumogakure on a non-approved mission in search of a legendary steel-smith from the Sand Village, whose supposed discovery could help Cisco pass his Genin re-exam. They are travelling fully armed, yet Cisco relies on Lucas for protection, who is the only real ninja out of the two.

Location: The forest roads surrounding Konoha.

____________________________________________________________________

Lucas and Cisco had been travelling for several hours, already crossing the border into Konoha, by the time Cisco began feeling his age. He wasnt old by any standard at 27, but keeping up with Lucas was still abit too much for him.

"Mind if we take a break here?" Cisco said, as they reached a small clearing in the forest. It was like a little glade surrounded by thick trees, with a little pond on one end.

"The last time i did any physical training was during my academy days, before my first Genin exam." He said as he sat down with his back against a tree. "Maybe if i trained harder my exam would have gone differently."

"It is probably a good idea to rest while we can," lucas said with a small hint of concern. "We are no longer in our country, who knows may happen if we come across anybody out here."

Lucas had been on alert the moment they left their borders, but, surprisingly they hasn't run into any danger, yet. Still he didn't want to chance his luck by recklessly pushing on ahead, and Cisco had found a nice place to catch their breath. Pacing themselves was important.

"It may have but who is to say it would have gone better? Intelligence is just as important, besides you can train physically to a degree," he said reassuringly as he knelt down to test the water. "The water is cool and seems to be fresh, I wonder where it came from."

Like a child Lucas was curious about almost anything, well he was still young and learning so it was normal. Sitting down under one of the trees, he took the time to enjoy the breeze on his face, and the taste of the water from his bottle. "You are a stubborn guy, Cisco." Lucas said out of nowhere, letting his eyes close for a few seconds, "most would have given up or been at the bottom of a bottle by now."

Cisco erupted into laughter. Not becouse what Lucas said was funny, but becouse it struck dangerously close to home.
"I actually did!" He said. "i spent almost a decade feeling sorry for myself, building tools and traps for better men, before i realized i wasnt making any headway."

"Its become somewhat of a pride-matter for me. I wont be able to move forward anywhere in life unless i get past this one particular hurdle." He said with a distant look. "But yeah, there was a time when i thought i had given up. Getting up from a blow like that isnt easy, so i appreciate you helping me out"

"Strength can be measured in many different ways," Lucas said with a slight hint of nostalgia. "I was once told that by a friend, and I suppose you make that true." He joked throwing a small rock into the water.

Lucas knew what it felt like to be depressed, and powerless, and weak, and had vowed to not feel such utter disgusting feelings ever again. His fist had clenched tight just remebering, his palms sweaty in anger, no, in fear.

Standing up, Lucas pulled off his shirt, shaking his head he moved down towards the water splashing some into his face and taking a deep breath. He enjoyed the nature more than the people, it was calmer and never truly betrayed you.

"What is your family like?" He asked, curiously.

Still, he got the feeling it was quiet, to quiet considering where they were. Luck was good today.

As Lucas and Cisco sat talking and listening to the quiet stillness of the forest a sound slowly began to intrude on their peace and quiet.

At first you can't seem to make out words, the sound too far away, but you hear the distinct sound of small explosions, similar to that of an explosive tag. IF you were to venture closer you would hear a man in his early twenties shouting,

"Red Flame Canon!"

Shortly followed by the sound of a small explosion. This process seemed to repeat itself, the man obviously training some kind of skill out in, what he thought to be, a secluded piece of the forest.

Cisco yerked around at the sound of the explosion. This risky journey had him on high alert, and he debated wether or not to investigate the source of the explosion. Once he heard the proscess repeat, he lowered his guard enough for his curiosity to take the lead. He opened the valves on his steam-tank, pressurizing his suit, and approached cautiously.

He planned to hop into a nearby tree and spy on this person, but his plan didnt execute as he hoped. As he found the right spot and got ready, he realized it would be his first real jump using the suit, and hesitated at just the wrong moment. He slipped off the branch he was gonna land on, and tumbled straight into the enemy shinobis line of sight with a crash.

"Eh?"

In the middle of his practicing a guy in a wierd suit suddenly tumbles out of a tree right in front of Hai. Blinking, once, twice, then a few times more for good measure he realises it isn't some kind of bizarre day dream; just a bizarre happening.

"Uh.. hello? Can I help you?"

What Hai doesn't realise is he is still in his pose for practicing his technique. Right arm extended with palm facing out and his left arm bracing the right arm. This pose gives off the appearance he is preparing to shoot some kind of blast at cisco despite it simply being Hai forgetting to reset his pose after the last cast.

Cisco's reaction was that of someone having a cannon pointed at them. He tried to speak but his nerves wouldnt let him, almost paralyzed with fear. Cisco wasnt particularly cowardly compared to other ninja, but this WAS an enemy combatant in enemy territory. Ciscos protection seemed to have vanished, and his fears of causing a dire political incident looked like they were coming true, only now he had his life to worry about aswell.

The response was immediate once employed, although getting to that point took Cisco a while.
He waded through a sea of internal insecurities before desciding he wasnt going to die in his first battle.

Getting away was his priority, and he could tell by the sensation of the suit that the pressure had reached working levels. He descided to throw caution into the wind, and execute an unsanctioned test of his new prototype.

"D-d-d-displacement!!" he shouted, and thats as far as he got. With a pop and a pressurized 'hiss', Cisco vanished from view. Although he would appear half a second later crashing into a nearby tree, for a moment he was faster than the eye, leaving behind a cloud of white hot steam where he first stood.

His escape had failed.

Hai was dumfounded. This guy comes tumbling in out of nowhere, looking strange as hell, before using a bizarre technique and vanishing faster than his eye could follow. He was alerted to where the man ended up by a loud crash as he ran into a tree.

Worrying that he may have hurt himself Hai flicks a quick tiger seal using body flicker to appear next the strange man instantly. Hai bends over and offers a hand down to cisco.

However as with before Hai is a tad absentminded, he is wearing his rather menacing clawed gauntlets and to top it off they are radiating quite the amount of heat from his practice earlier.

Chiyo had been watching the strange man with metal hands from the safety of her tree. Until it was hit by a flying Cisco. She lost balance and tumbled down, falling onto Hai as he flickered over to help Cisco. Now on top of Hai who was on top of Cisco she flushed and retreated with a wisp of darkness fading in her place.

"Surprise?" she asked from back up in her safety tree.

Now in the light Chiyo could be seen. What appeared was a pre-pubescent girl with waist length purple hair adorned by a giant red ribbon. A crude and disconcerting mask strapped to the side of her head was the only hint she was not a normal girl.

Cisco was obviously surprised by the series of events that now transpired, however it might've been a good thing, as it disarmed his battle-readyness for a moment. Long enough to notice the pain in his face from literally ramming into the tree, and long enough to notice the girls strange technique.

"Wow.. that was interesting" He said in a baffled manner. Ninjutsu of any kind impressed him, as he could not use them himself, but this one was stranger than most.

"Gah!"

Something rather heavy for its seemingly small size tumbled down onto hai causing he himself to collapse on top of cisco. Atleast the weight on his back disappeared relatively quickly.

"Surprise?"

"Wow.. that was interesting"

As people begin to speak Hai quickly rolls off of cisco and climbs to his feet, dusting himself off in the process. It is then he notices the girl sitting in the tree and whispers quietly to himself.

"Who thought such a tiny girl could be so heavy..."

Chiyo glares at Hai for a moment before the mask of innocence returns.

"Iamnotheavy"

"Hello," she waves, "I am Amane Yuuka Chiyo, have you seen my cat?"

Jumping down to join them on the ground she appeared graceful until she landed and fell forward, planting her face into the ground with a whimper.

Cisco were actually about to respond the girls questions out of habit, when he remembered his current situation was actually quite dire (or so he thought). If Kumo were somehow notified of this incident after Cisco had snuck out without permission, tempers would flare and Cisco would be in for one hell of a punishment.

He figured his best option was still to try and get away, and so he pleaded.
"I-i havent seen any cat, i promise! So... i'll just be on my way, nice to meet ya!"

As he did, he begun stepping backwards towards the woods again with one of those "please dont kill me"-looks on his face. Although as he did, he heard a thud from inside his clothes, followed by a sensation of intense heat. He realized his "Steam Soldier"-suit had sprung a leak, and hastily closed the main valve on his back. He was now actually defenceless, until the warm and malleable copper tubing corrected itself upon cooling.

"Uhm... Kariya Cisco, inventor extraordinaire and ninja-in-training" He said, essentially trying to defuse the situation and buy time for the suit to recover.

Wierd guy had now become wierd not because of the strange object on his back but simply by his actions. Somehow though Hai felt a touch of kinship with the man as he said ninja in training.

"Uh good to see your not hurt, my names Hai; also training to be a ninja."

Hai then looks towards chiyo half squinting as if trying to discern something,

"Do you even have a cat?"

It was quite odd for someone to be in the forest with their cat. Now dog he could understand but cat was just too bizarre.

Chiyo dusted herself off and looked at Hai with upturned eyes.

"I used to, but she was kidnapped by evil people. Wait, that was my sister. Missy just gets lost easily. Aren't you a little old to be 'training' to be ninjas?" she asks, despite the fact she is closer to their ages than her appearance suggests.

"Hey mister, your backpack is crying, did you put my cat in there?"

She went over and climbed onto Cisco's back, knocking on the metal and listening for a meow or any signs of cat.

So the one with the gauntlets was a ninja aswell, as he thought. An enemy combatant, if seen from a political standpoint. While the one with the cat without the cat but who actually had a cat once, kinda scared him.

He was actually so distracted that he didnt notice her approaching. When he heard the knocking however his blood turned to ice in his veins, and he basicly jumped away from her.

"uh huh"

Hai quickly came to the conclusion that chiyo does not make sense and is therefore best ignored. Following this train of thought he ignores the entire thing with chiyo climbing onto Cisco's back and just addresses him directly.

"So what are you doing all the way out here?"

Cisco's outburst left her dazed.

"I have no idea what you just said. Is my cat in here or not?"

Chiyo takes Hai's question as directed to herself.

"I already told you, I am looking for my sister. She gets lost easily. Also, my cat got kidnapped by evil people. What are you doing training with heat in the forest are you one of those ar-son-ist peoples?"

Cisco considered whether or not to answer with a lie. After all, nobody was supposed to know he was there. But at this stage he figured his best chances of remaining undetected would be sway these two to his cause.

"Uhm.. i kinda set up this black market deal for a certain substance native to Suna, and neglected to inform the seller that i was from out of town.." He said, desciding the truth was the best option.
"He expects my arrival by the end of the week, or the discovery will be handed over to the Kazekage.. beyond my reach forever." He explained, his voice showing hints of concern towards that last part.

"So!" He continued, "it just so happens i am in need of some protection along the way. Would the two of you perhaps be interested in taking on an inpromptu C-rank escort mission?" He asked, clasping his hands together in a plea.

"Hmm"

Hai begins to scratch his 'beard' or rather the face mask where his chin is. It is unknown if he does indeed have a beard or not.

On the one hand Hai wasn't sure if he could do missions yet being a genin and all.... on the other hand he wasn't even sure if he was still counted as a genin seeing as he stopped being a ninja almost ten years ago. So he was somesort of free ninja then?

Makes perfect sense

"Sure why not, will help me get back into the swing of things."

Hai casually takes a step back noticing that Chiyo has ignored cisco's warning and is still tapping away at the strange tank, meowing to it occaisonally.

Chiyo perked up and hopped off at the mention of a black market deal.

"Do you think they sell cats? Or sisters? maybe i can buy some faces"

She knew that the whole point of going out into the world alone was learning how to blend in and survive. If she had two other people with her, that was two extra faces within reach and also two extra distractions.

"Ok, but i still haven't forgiven you for turning missy into a metal thing. To the black market!"

Chiyo starts skipping in a random direction before tripping on her own feet. She raises an arm while her face is still on the dirt.

"Question! Which way is it?"

Cisco had to smile. It seems his luck had turned to the better, and he was grateful for their cooperation. This would be his last attempt after all, he needed all the help he could get.

"That way" He said merrily in response Chiyos question, pointing towards the west.

He made some discreet adjustments to his suits pressure, taking out of what you could call 'combat mode'. It significantly lowered the pressure within the tank and the suit itself, making less unstable.

"Quite a ways, but if we make haste, we should hit the border by nightfall and be in Land of Wind territory soon after. From there, its going to be touch and go for a bit until we successfully make contact with Chrome, the broker. Once we have the item, the broker will eliminate all traces of its origins, and we should be able to leave safely with it even if spotted."

He spoke with conviction, but hidden behind that will was also fear. He knew the tradeoff for being able to leave safely, but the others didnt. He was considering telling them of the huge risk they were taking for him, but for some reason descided not to.

Only time would tell if this gamble would pay off..

It would end up taking them a bit longer than Cisco had anticipated. The group arrived at the border between the Land of Fire and the Land of Wind after night had already fallen, and set up camp for the night.

On the way, Cisco had told them about his story as a failed genin. About his numerous attempts, his newfound love for trapmaking, and the woman he lost to illness only weeks after becoming old enough to marry her. He wanted them to know what kind of man he was, as if to defend his stubborness.
