The projection was beautiful, so relaxing watching it, also some commentaries from Hoshino. Feels incoming I guess, looking forward for the last 2 episodes.

Got the feels this episode. I kept up with the anime despite the first two episodes being 'average' since it's a KEY adaptation so I had my hopes up for this but gosh, this ep blew me away!! Now I'm sure that I'll have waterworks soon enough.

Btw ,the presentation was spectacular and the ost used during the later definitely set the mood and even slightly broke my heart T-T

I also loved that part with the MC as a child in probably his mother's arms, looking at the that star... It was sad enough for me to know that even sadder things are going to happen.

And Hoshino's VA did an amazing job this episode. Plus her eyes kind of drew me in at the last part where she talked about escorting the MC to his car.

Now why is it that a small studio can do an adaptation of a Key VN at a much higher quality and those bigger studios?

Probably because those studios are so big, thus they have no self-control and try to pander to the fanbase.

Nostalgia and the feels in the Gentle Jena soundtrack. I didn't expect the quality and animation of this show to be that good when the projection finally works.

I'm a little nervous on what might happen next since she is escorting him to the car. It's been 8 years for me since I played, so I'm not sure what happens next. Which is great so it will be a nice to be reminded.

Although I can never forget the ending.

5/5

Son of a bitch. That was... bad. I suppose I'm in the minority here, but I do not think this episode adapted the story well at all.

I feel like whoever storyboarded the Reverie speech didn't actually get what made it special. It's not because "Oh, stars are cool!" It's not because the history of human spaceflight is awe-inspiring, at least not in totality. The jaw-dropping moment of the Reverie - in fact, what the "Reverie" actually was - is the culmination of all that. They completely glossed over the "little planet" part of the speech, and the message of hope that underlies the Reverie for Earth.

What is the "reverie?" Why is the "little planet" mentioned in the title? Because that time machine segment at the end is what ties together the entire message of hope that gives Planetarian its heart-melting reputation. Yumemi starts out with humanity in caves, before moving on through history into the present. The connecting thread, the singular constant, in humanity's story is that for all the hardship it endures, and all the horrors it endures and inflicts upon itself, the stars are still there, and we still reach for them. And, what's more important, is that our little world is a speck in the starry sky of every other world that humans might live on in the future - that the third speck of light from the sun is our home, regardless of who we are or how we fight.

And that's where the optimism creeps in, and grabs you by the heartstrings. We look back at the last century, and see that - despite all that's happened - we're finally reaching our dreams of space. After millenia of watching the stars from the ground, we finally started to join them; the astronauts and cosmonauts of the space race, the ISS, and the (future) moon colonies are all rattled off as examples of how we made it, and as proof of more to come. And the idea is that, after all we've done, we're finally pulling together as one, united as a civilization by our common ground and our love for the stars. And, in a thousand years, the stars will still be there. The constellations we know, that our ancestors knew, will still be there. And even when we can't see them - thanks to a dark cave roof, the haze of smog, or clouds of acid rain - the stars will still be there, waiting for us to fly up and join them.

This episode did not capture that message well. It's both a combination of adaptation difficulty, due to how most of the Reverie's significance was delivered not by Yumemi but by the Junker's internal monologue, and just raw... bad storyboarding. The Reverie was not presented or edited well, and as a result it lost a lot of its flow and emotional punch.

Thing is, I'm confused. Why did they rush the reverie, which is the most important scene of the VN (followed closely by "Perfectly Human," which will be in episode 4 or 5), when they have two episodes remaining? There really isn't all that much material left, certainly not enough for two episodes... unless they're doing 10 minute episodes again. What the heck are they planning for episodes 4 and 5 that was so important they had to butcher the Reverie?

So, it seems to me that about 90% of people commenting on this anime have played the VN?

The episode was very good. The feels were real. I often wonder about how we as humanity are progressing and, while the present isn't looking too good, I'm still hopeful for the future.

BTW Is it unacceptable to hug planetarium staff? Especially cute robot staff.

I didn't read the VN but I have the Gentle Jena theme for years now so it's nostalgic when it was used. Charlotte was a disappointment but this episode alone redeems my expectations of Key. Lol, david production, they have good taste to adapt this. This episode is the best this season so far. I don't care if it's predictable or the ending is obvious, they're going at it the right way, unlike Plastic Memories. This is good writing. Excuse me while I increase my score.

Oh to VN readers, are they skipping things or are they going to complete everything with the movie?

The robot girl explains a lot about the stars, constellations, mankind history regarding inventions, and the fact that the planetarium is also a time machine..
It's not literally a time machine, it's more like a calculative almanac based on orbits (maybe predicted star deaths as well). She did imply that it was created to give a taste of the fact that the familiar starry sky will be there for a very long time.

The movie is going to be adapted from the Drama CDs apparently.

IMO, the Drama CDs shouldn't be tied to the original story whatsoever and should be viewed as an alternate reality. The only exception is A Snow Globe, which takes place before the war.
I don't recommend the Drama CDs as many fans report that they did in fact ruin the original story for them.

This anime is really amazing, I like the plot of the story and how Yumemi presents the story to the guest, but also seems to personally direct the people who watch the anime, besides the beautiful scenes and images in this episode, as well as the soundtrack, there remain only two more episodes, but I'm pretty excited to see the upshot of this adaptation ..

One of my fav show from this season obviously but it's too bad that it only has 5 episode and i just realized it now. but hey! they are making a sequel ? or more like a side story ? and when i watched the pv, god dammit i can't wait to watch it.

overall, this episode is just too relaxing with a cool and calm atmosphere. it was kinda different than any other SOL series which are airing in this season...it has it's own uniqe atmosphere and that atmosphere is one of my fav type in terms of SOL. bit dark, cool, calm but yet it's relaxing and enjoyable to watch. and one more thing, it was beautiful.

lol that ending tho....pls don't tell me something bad wil happen to her....
well, i kinda knew something like this might happen....but man....hope i won't cry

looking foward to the next episode...

Great episode, but any hopes I had of a somehow hopeful ending were just destroyed.

The belief, by whoever wrote the (also great) projection, that mankind would, in the end, be able to solve its problems and aim for the stars was cute, but ultimately turns this story's inevitable tragic ending into some kind of political statement.

This anime will probably be predictable from now on, but as unambitious as it is, it is also atmospheric and beautiful. The fact that they aren't trying to do too much with it has a lot to do with how good the first three episodes were.

As the projector started to light up, I was amazed by the beauty of it. Yumemi's passionate storytelling along with the visuals and emotional music had my tears welling up. I never thought that I would learn so much about stars in an anime.

The electric outage is a very ominous sign... Does that mean that she'll have to deactivate her power-saving feature for now?

Mr. Customer visualizing the special projection in his mind while Yumemi comments the Reverie of Mankind was just too much for my feels capacitors to hold in. The first wave of tears have started flowing :'(

Yumemi will now join Mr. Customer on a journey to get his car!. It's not like his car is anywhere near him or anything...

21 minutes went on so fast! I didn't sense the time passing by as if I'm captivated by the Planetarium's "time travel"~ Another divine work from David Production.
