I though that all episodes will be 18 minutes long. It's kinda shame, but still great.

This episode was only 13 minutes long!

Nice to see Kuzuya was fixing the projector!

Yumemi is so adorable!

Considering what this episode was about, making it 13 minutes seems to have been a good choice, just make the next episodes longer since they'd benefit more, no point in throwing in 5 more minutes of chitchatter just to fill time here, would be a waste.
Throwing the projection into this episode wouldn't fit that well since you'd have to stop midway and lose momentum.
It's a good thing they can adjust each episode's time to however much they want.

So short ;_;

They're really flying through the material. Or maybe I was just a slow reader, though cutting out all those monologues was always going to make a short VN even shorter. I do wish the directing and visuals were a little less stale, but I'm still enjoying it. Next episode should be great.

He growing attached to our robot :D I hope i noticed that right and i don't know if it's an important detail, but we were shown two sleep modes. And the remaining operation time reduced from 75 hours to 60 hours...am i the only one thinking that it's going to reduce to zero and she'll be asleep forever?

Only 13 minutes this week? Oh well, it still worked quite well despite being fairly short. As for the remaining operation time, given that she went from 75 to 60 in one day, it would seem reasonable to assume that she has four days left before that timer reaches zero. I wonder what will happen when it comes to that, but I suppose it'll be that Charge mode she mentioned, meaning she'll probably be asleep for years and years, or at least way too long for the Junker to wait.

I wish this a bit longer than half an episode. Oh well, it was kinda cute with the robot girl and the segment about "Robot Heaven" was interesting enough.

Really like the mysterious atmosphere of the series so far too with the light comedy.

Well, not forever but it seems like the trickle charge needs about 12 months before she has another week of 15 hour days. Just 4 days left... 15 hours per day so there is nothing mysterious about it going from 75 to 60, thats 9am to midnight for a day.

She can't cry but I have a feeling I might shed some tears at the end of this.

She's awake 1 week per year, said it herself.

I think that's different in the VN in how she sleeps for a lot longer there but I forget exactly.

I think this is probably my favorite show airing this season. It reminds me a lot of Fallout, the way you fix things for the people and machines you meet, thus helping the region as a whole get back on its feet.

This is notably less goal-oriented than that, but it's still pretty good.

Its shorter than the first episode, though great episode. The junker is getting attached to Hoshino. I'm still feeling the drama atmosphere, even though there's a bit comedy. Yoshino so cute while holding the bulb then gone to sleep mode. Looking forward for the next episode.

Why they make this anime into an ONA series ?!?!?!? too short!!! it's so unfortunate.

overall, it was a great episode as usual. still keeping up with the sad, lonely and somehow relaxing atmosphere which i really like. i just hope that dude will be staying with her for a while too.

looking foward for the next episode.
and btw, this series is one of my fav show from this season.

They made a fair few changes compared to the VN (mostly timing about when you learn certain things) and cut some stuff (a lot of it just being Yumemi repeating her daily routine - you get a lot more "Why don't you come to the Planetarium?"), but overall that was still adapted well. Next episode should be where events start unfolding and we learn more about Yumemi.

I think they've done a great job with the pacing. It may have been a little too fast for those who're just watching the series and can't read on, but there wasn't really much to cover in the second episode as it was bound to be a transition to episode 3 with some build up. But next episode... I'm really looking forward to it. Really. A lot. It's going to be beautiful.

It's a nice slow paced series with a touch of humor/irony tossed into the episodes. This one just shows our MC really has no critical schedule that he has to meet on a daily basis. Each day is just a stand alone type of day for him.

What else would they have done? You can't really make a TV-series out of Planetarian. You would cover the entire VN two times over in a 1-cour

The only real alternative if you ask me was to make a single movie out of it, that's about the right length

then i prefer a movie if they can't make it into a series.
but again after watching this ONA, i don't think it would kinda fit with the story (?)

Liked it, but unfortunately it looks like they've excluded some things to shorten it.

In this ONA they have her tell the Junker that it's the first time she's woken up for operation in nearly 30 years. I guess that's where they break a bit from the source material.

In the VN she was actually waking up every single day for 30 years.
It's pretty important not only to the character but because it somewhat ties into what happens later in the story when

and the Junker has to make a decision that will

They could've given more time to Yumemi doing her daily routine of repeating her advertisement. During that time they could've included exposition. A realization that the robot has been repeating the same advertisement for 30 years, waiting for potential customers.

It was a huge part of Yumemi's character in the VN.

Still a bit disappointed that they haven't put emphasis on how dangerous the rain is, but it is what it is.

Also here's a screenie from the VN of this particular point in the anime.
For anyone interested.

Edit:
Apparently there are different translations regarding Yumemi's operation time among the 5+ or so different Planetarian releases.

It's impressive how beautiful a simple anime without a deep story or characters can be. Also bringing up different topics such as the robot feelings, religion, etc. in only 2 episodes from that perspective feels really interesting, I'm enjoying this so far, let's see how the story continues. 4/5 for the episode
"Doubting everything that you take on... That is very important. Open your own eyes, clear out your ears, and look and listen to the world... And think using your own brain. After you've doubted everything, there is a possibility of something real to believe in. To believe in something, doubt everything."

Okay, enough praising.
Time to be a prick.

Dear KEY, please tell me: why less minutes?
Seriously: Planetarian is one few case where I would rather have longer content than better animation. It's a very simple story "that isn't so simple." That's why those 5 hours of gameplay felt so fulfilling.
Just give the money & the time the production team need, please. :(
(or is it Mr. Director's personal decision, instead?)

ps.: btw, that was Hikasa Youko, yes? The lab assistant girl from the past. She's mint, as always, Hikasa Youko. :3

I own 4 different versions including the fan, Memorial and PSP.
One of those versions must've had a completely different translation then because that changes the story a lot.

I don't remember the numbers it gave, but it did include her wake up times and "repeating over several weeks for 30 years".
"Every single day" did sound a extreme given the fact that she could've easily broken down after a few years without maintenance and cease to function.

Will look into it more a bit later.

Hmm good episode, but still no info abt mc's motivation for staying there and helping her to fix that thing(is it only for seeing the starry sky?). Let's see how this develops.

Giving a little backstory to Junker may help I think. Well, you can always think him as a cynical mc with a good heart who warms up to her in this cruel post-apocalyptic world.
