| 2016 is a sequel. There are a lot of important tie-backs to the original series, so going straight into 2016 might not be that good an idea. |
| it is sequel.. utawarerumono first season is good, but make many deviate with original source (VN) that make many people unpleased and give wrong interpretation of series and make kinda confusing for sequel... the sequel totaly ignoring what first season does and stright-up from original source (2nd game VN)... alos sequel is just big build-up for 3rd season (the VN will released this year) that will wasted if there is no 3rd season... |

| I'd recommend watching the 2006 version first. Whilst it wouldn't be entirely necessary since the 2nd season is set in a different country with a different set of characters, it has many references back to the first and a lot of events will feel like they've came out of nowhere if you haven't seen the original. The original does a lot of important world building. |

It is a sequel to first, however it is set ~20 years latter and stars different main characters(in various ways connected to events of the first game/anime) and overall plot continues from the first show/game. Watching the first show helps understand the second, albeit the first adaptation is relatively far more rushed/altered than the second, so it might pose some disrepancies(since the second adaptation ignores those certain changes).
