Would the Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya still been popular if they had different seiyuus (voice actors)?

What if the cast had different voice actors? For example, if Aya Hirano never voiced Haruhi, if Daisuke Ono never voiced Koizumi, if Tomokazu Sugita never voiced Kyon? Would the anime still have gained in popularity? Would different voice actors have the same impact without these voice actors?

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't' have mattered much since they'd just get other seiyuus that sound similar anyway.

No, even though the light novels were popular no one would have watched the anime if they used any other voice actors.

In my opinion, yes it does. Voice actors are important when it comes to anime obviously. Without Aya Hirano's singing, we would never look at Haruhi as we do now.

Haruhi is the type of show that is very character driven. So VA selection is quite important. I think the voice acting is incredibly memorable in Haruhi, and that has a large impact on it's lasting impression, which in turn affects success in sequels and related stuff (Lucky Star).

Could another selection of VAs have been just as good, perhaps in a different way? Maybe. But if they hadn't captured the magic of the characters the way they did, I don't think it would have been as successful. There have been plenty of popular manga/LNs that get adapted and are garbage.

@Thei9, I love your answer and that is true. If they never captured the magic of the characters voices, it might as well never been as popular. It just depends how the VAs handle their lines. Everything from the show is rememberable, to the characters voices, unique personalities, the relaxing soundtrack makes what series great. I miss this anime and I'm still waiting for S3 even 'till this day. But, I doubt Kyoto Animation would revive the Haruhi series. I mean there's more light novel adaptations waiting to be made. Many people who've read the light novel are saying there is enough for S3. I just hope something can be done in my future.

Assuming I would've known about it if it had different seiyuus, I would've still enjoyed it all the same, since it's the story and characters that make this show for me. Also, while I have seen it in Japanese, I usually watch the dub or read the LN, so, there's that too.

just find the similar one, and it wouldn't bother anyone (except Kyon's VA)
