Why did Daru have to die?! o(╥﹏╥)o (This brought some painful memories for me...)

The ending was beautiful though and I'm glad she got another cat.
Same with me. I lost my loving dog a few months earlier and seeing a loved pet die now hurts me. I cried when Daru's passing was implied.

I'm surprised at the level of melodrama in this one. After portraying the cat's mentality with verisimilitude (explicitly stating that he can't understand human speech, for instance) here at the end he somehow uses a phone to call the mother in and then dies in the lead's arms with perfect melodrama timing.

RIP Daru. I heard this was going to lead into the OVA, and it did.

I liked the style of the OVA better, but this was still alright.

omg I haven't cried this hard in a while. Not just this episode, all of them together (they're so short it's a hassle to put a comment on each thread :P)
Next year I'll be going off to college and I'll have to go a long time without seeing my cat, and I thought about that while watching.
That nod to the OVA was gorgeous tho. I kinda figured there'd be something like that, since it was listed as "prequel" instead of "side story" or something...

eh, didn't like this. it isn't necessarily bad but it just doesn't compare to the original. this is just a sob story while the original is more of an essay.

So relaxing & contemplative. One of the best endings recently, even tho it's so short, the feels were great. Expected Daru dies, but the happy reincarnation really surprised me & I love that.
Despite being a cat, Daru's such a thoughtful mc. I feel the directing is meticulous, proper pacing, sense of mundane realism, many scenes & ideas draw parallels. Like sound of laughter as the train's regularity, Daru's relationship with his long lost mom with Miyu distancing away from hers. Kazuya Sakamoto's mal page shows mostly an episode director, but seems all his shows are amazing. Hope he does more.
The endless job search, relationship breakdowns, relate to me so much it made me really sad. Like her, I was job searching near graduation, years of hard work in a good uni, but it just happened to be the great recession. Daru & Mikasa both remind us of this cruel world.

This show definitely is designed to assassinate the emotions of anyone who has owned a pet for a very long time. One of my cats I've had since before I was born just died last month, so you best know I'm drowning in feels right now. It's not even just specific to cats, it could even apply to a turtle or something, this is melodrama done right.

I had two turtles long ago. When one turtle died, it made me more sad that the remaining turtle went depressed & started fasting. Anything we did couldn't raise its appetite. That self destructive behavior & powerlessness reminds me of Miyu losing to adult society & closing herself off.

Knew Daru was going to die, still cried for his death. The ending was bittersweet, because although Daru died, Miyu finally gets a job, she finds a new cat and her happyness.

Despite how short it was, I liked this. The atmosphere was perfect with the simple, but sad and heartwarning ambient and the soundtrack only made it better. 7/10.

Final thought: Up until the 3rd episode, it was actually pretty decent, but I didn't like this episode that much, and not because of the death of the cat. I don't know if it's budget issue or the series was intended to be written this way, but it felt very lazy. I know this is a very simple story, but it's simplified to the point where it just feel like it was not well thought out. One episode was for when her roommate moved out, one was for the flashback and the bonding between the main protagonist and her newly adopted cat, two for the family, and then, what? How does that link from one to another? How are they related and fit with the narrative of this story/feelstrain without feeling disjointed?

I also didn't really like both leads' voice.

I hope this does not set the standard for future feelsy anime. Writers ought to put more effort into writing a good coherent story imo.

The only way to fill the void of the heart left by the death of a cat, is to fill it with more cats. Or if you have more than one, love those that remain that much more until you need more cats to receive your excess love.

Speaking from experience, just lost two of my childhood cats within the year, but they were old and ready to go. At least there was closure. Cats that die or go missing (not a good sign in rural areas) in their prime is perhaps even more tragic.

The reincarnation touch is nice tho.

Right in the feels. Knew Daru's death was coming eventually since he was an older cat already but still cried like a lil' bitch. Seeing as I have a middle-aged (coincidentally, black) cat myself, it hit me even harder. At least he was reborn as Chobi. But still, tears :'(

Fuck. I had a bad feeling in episode 3 when he was trying to jump on the bed but couldn't...but damn, that caught me.

Watched this on impulse just because I happened to see a batch for it.

As someone who has a pretty old dog who's been with for...well a fuckin long time, him dying in her arms like that broke my heart.

Was kind of nice though to see her finding another abandoned cat at the end, after a year or so passed and she finally was able to move forward. The cat narrator kind of hinted at him being reincarnated too.

Well, I just ruined my day. For some reason when it comes to loved ones dying, be it human or cat, I just become an emotional wreck. I've had cats my whole life, so of course some of them have passed on already. This just hints way too close to home for me ;___;

But aside from me being an emotional wreck now it was an enjoyable anime. (up in till 4 and the end of 3 when it became apparent he was going to pass on soon)

That was a sad but yet beautiful ending, but how did Daru die? They never explained though. I am glad she got a new cat with the same soul, this time white. I loved this ova and hoped for more, it reminded me of a movie of a dog I watched last year and it was as good.

really wish this was made into a full length story. These moments would have more weight to them then. Also Daru's lines are a bit overpretentious.

I really liked the cat dialing the phone and mom coming over.

What a beautiful story. I had a black cat named Luna that I recused from an animal shelter. Even though I had another cat in my apartment, and later got married and had three more for a few months, she was always MY cat. She would follow me around and sleep next to me in bed. A couple years ago, by then she was very old, she climbed into my lap, fell asleep, and quietly passed away. This series really touched me deeply because of that. Easily 10/10.

Despite being a short anime, it made me cry after watching the ending song. Daru is quite a powerful and special cat that can bring the family together, it is sad to see him gone after living with Miyu for years. Good to know that Daru #2 comes before the anime ends, it reduces the sadness of the ending so that was a good one. Overall a good anime and totally not a waste of time, thank you for this anime.
